Senior Structural Engineer / Structural Engineer – Site-based

Full Job Description

Site based supervision role on the Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi. The project will consist of approximately 24,000m² gross area of museum space, external public area and 600 parking spaces in the basement. Designed as a seemingly floating dome structure, the design concept has been described as an engineering feat which includes a web-patterned dome that the sun to filter through, reminiscent of rays passing through date palm fronds in an oasis.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi will have 6,000m² of galleries devoted to permanent displays and 2,000m² for temporary exhibitions. The galleries will open to the public in successive phases. The Louvre Abu Dhabi will exhibit major artefacts and works in archaeology, the fine arts and decorative arts from all historic periods, but predominantly classical.

Expected start dates in January, February and March.

Job Purpose:

• Site based Senior/Lead Structural Engineer on the Louvre project, presently under construction in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
• Responsible for ensuring that the quality expectations, budget and programme constraints of the client regarding structural works are respected by the contractor.
• Responsible for managing junior Structural engineering staff and site inspectors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Being the Senior Structural Engineer on the Louvre project and reporting to the BH Lead Structural Engineer.
• Oversee Junior Structural engineers and an Structural inspectors as necessary.
• Advise the Lead Structural Engineer of any technical aspects of the Structural services that may affect construction progress, quality and the like.
• Review Contractor’s installation method statements regarding Structural works.
• Review Contractor’s structural shop drawings against the contract drawings for compliance with the design intent and return to Lead Structural Engineer with appropriate comments / approval.

Job Skills

- 5 or more years experience in consulting engineering
- Graduate Member and working towards Chartership of the MIStructE or equivalent (Engineer grade).
- Chartered Member of the IStructE or equivalent (Senior Engineer grade).
- Good education, with MEng/ BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree.
