Description

The Center for Translational Medical Devices (CENTMED) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Research Scientist to contribute to the Surface Chemistry of Implants and Fabrication of Polymer Medical Devices.

The successful applicant will collaborate with faculty and researchers at CENTMED to enhance the surface chemistry of implant materials, improving biocompatibility and osteointegration. This will involve surface modification of implants through methods such as plasma treatment, silanization, and the application of specialty coatings to impart corrosion resistance. Additionally, the candidate will develop polymeric lubricious coatings for catheters to minimize injury to blood vessels during the trans-catheterization process. They will characterize the surface modifications of implants using microscopy techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The candidate will also map the nanomechanical properties of implant surfaces, assessing factors such as adhesion, friction, Young s modulus, and surface free energy using AFM. The ideal candidate will bring experience in developing polymeric medical devices by identifying unmet clinical needs through interactions with clinicians, designing and developing medical devices, and fabricating medical device prototypes. Furthermore, the candidate should have experience in polymer processing techniques, including filament extrusion, compression molding, injection molding, and fused deposition modeling. This position requires the preparation of ISO/ASTM test specimens for mechanical (tensile and flexural) testing of polymers and composites using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The candidate will also estimate the glass transition temperature of polymers and composite materials through Dynamic Mechanical Analysis and develop osteoconductive polymeric implants for skull base surgery. Furthermore, the candidate will be involved in quantifying the adsorption of biomolecules on polymeric coatings using Quartz Crystal Microbalance with dissipation monitoring to model plaque build-up in coronary blood vessels. Other responsibilities include developing orthotic assistive devices from sustainable polymers and composites and co-developing medical devices with industry partners. The candidate will also assist in filing intellectual property rights related to medical device innovations. In addition to experimental work, the candidate will collaborate with CENTMED staff and leadership to prepare technology documentation and facilitate the translation of innovations to industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

Required Education:

  • Advanced degree (Master s or higher) in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field

Required Experience:

  • Minimum years of progressively responsible experience in campus safety, public safety, or law enforcement, including senior leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading in multicultural and international environments, preferably within higher education or mission-driven institutions.
  • Expertise in behavioral threat assessment, enterprise risk management, emergency planning (NIMS/ICS), and community policing.

Preferred Experience:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To facilitate and formulate Construction Supervision, management, coordination, administration and strict enforcement of the Construction scope included as part of FEED/EPC Contract in line with Client's objective of progressing Work Order completion timely and to project schedule
  • Coordination of the FEED/EPC Contractor from construction through commissioning and handing over of FEED/EPC works
  • Review and provide input to the overall construction/installation plan, procedures and construction/installation requirements identified in the EPC Packages developed by FEED contractor to ensure efficient constructability
  • Ensure the construction/installation plan, procedures and requirement developed by EPC contractor comply with the EPC Scope of Work intent and requirements.
  • Coordinate and assist fabrication works at EPC contractor's or EPC contractor's subcontractor's fabrication facilities
  • Supervise, monitor and inspect the work EPC contractor and EPC contractor's subcontractors at the construction location (or place of manufacture where applicable) in accordance with ADNOC Onshore policy for supervision, quality assurance, control and inspection for the project.
  • Maintain EPC contractor's adherence to safety, quality and schedule requirements for construction.
  • Participate in identifying Construction slippage and recommend corrective action(s) to be performed by EPC contractor

What will you be doing?

Subsea 7 are now seeking a dedicated and driven individual to join our growing team in Dubai, UAE. Reporting to the Subsea 7 Piping, Valves and Connector Discipline Manager, the Senior Piping & Valve Engineer will have responsibility for all valve and piping related packages of work from initial tender, pre-feed engineering analysis to project execution.

The engineer will plan their workload, coordinating the technical expertise required to ensure successful delivery of high-quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs. He/she is expected to improve the specific discipline work processes and be a technical governance for the Discipline.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Piping & Valve Engineer provides specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice. Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions. Compliance with project plans, relevant engineering standards and contractual obligations is required. The engineer will work as part of a team but may have responsibility for discrete work packages. All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a culture of ethics, integrity and contribute a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7.
Candidates shall be required to:
• Provide expert skills and knowledge in valve and piping related scopes to the engineering team, including supporting other engineering disciplines within Subsea7.
• Work as part of the project team, supporting the Project Lead Engineer in performing engineering for successful project delivery.
• Organise and prioritise work scope which is subject to formal issuance.
• Identify project opportunities, raising them to the required personnel.

What experience would we like you to have?

Requirements:

Candidates would ideally have an Engineering degree (BEng), or equivalent, from a recognised institute in; Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Automotive or Naval Architecture along with 8 years proven experience in a similar role providing valve expertise.

• Sound engineering knowledge of various valve types including expertise in design, functionality, and testing.
• Knowledge of Topside valve engineering is required; Subsea valve engineering experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Awareness of actuated valve supply is advantageous to the role.
• Knowledge of the valve market in the Middle East is highly recommended.
• Strong knowledge of materials of construction deployed in the valve industry.
• Good knowledge of codes and standards such as DNVGL, ISO, API, especially API 6D.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of international piping design standards, including ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, B16.34, B16.5, and other relevant codes, to support the development of safe, efficient, and code-compliant piping systems.
• A good commercial understanding is preferable for the role.
• Review client specifications and deliver technical scope of work ensuring both client, international standards, and Subsea 7 requirements are accommodated.
• Prepare and review Material Requisitions, Valve Data Sheet, Piping material specifications aligned with project requirements and international standards.
• Responsible for technical bid evaluations, delivering feedback to procurement.

Cost, schedule, and controls
  • Finalize the cost and schedule estimate confidence package. Ensures project risks / issues are properly weighted in.
  • Provide pointed cost and schedule information to support decisions by the project team; develop and discuss project periodic cost and schedule reports with IPMT.
  • Provide advice on cost and schedule impact of changes, modifications or alternates by keeping abreast of engineering, procurement and construction activities.
  • Monitors and coordinates reporting of cost and schedule impact of changes. And ensures the accounting systems are in line with audit requirements.
  • Directs and monitors all financial reporting for the project including accrual reports, cash calls and the reconciliation of ADNOC Offshore systems with project reporting. Directs and monitors all accounting activities including invoicing review and approvals.
  • Directs the preparation of the Fixed Asset Registers for the project scope.

Contract and procurement
  • Directs the preparation of all related tender and procurement activities and manages the respective tender evaluations through to award.

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:
• Plan, detail and review technical documentation relating to topside/subsea piping, mechanical systems construction and installation.
• Detailed design in accordance with acknowledged industry codes, standards, client specifications and scopes of work.
• Production and checking of design documentation including feasibility reports, detailed design reports, equipment specifications.

What experience would we like you to have?

Qualifications and Education:

• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical or equivalent discipline, but consideration will be given to those with extensive proven experience within a similar role.

• 10+ years Proven experience in similar role.
• Proven Track record of delivering EPCI projects for major clients (ARAMCO, ADNOC, Qatar Energy, BP etc)
• Ability to lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects.
• Can articulate training in working situations.
