Qualifications

The Center for Translational Medical Devices (CENTMED) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to contribute to the Surface Chemistry of Implants and Fabrication of Polymer Medical Devices.
The successful applicant will collaborate with faculty and researchers at CENTMED to enhance the surface chemistry of implant materials, improving biocompatibility and osteointegration. This will involve surface modification of implants through methods such as plasma treatment, silanization, and the application of specialty coatings to impart corrosion resistance. Additionally, the candidate will develop polymeric lubricious coatings for catheters to minimize injury to blood vessels during the trans-catheterization process. They will characterize the surface modifications of implants using microscopy techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The candidate will also map the nanomechanical properties of implant surfaces, assessing factors such as adhesion, friction, Young s modulus, and surface free energy using AFM. The ideal candidate will bring experience in developing polymeric medical devices by identifying unmet clinical needs through interactions with clinicians, designing and developing medical devices, and fabricating medical device prototypes. Furthermore, the candidate should have experience in polymer processing techniques, including filament extrusion, compression molding, injection molding, and fused deposition modeling. This position requires the preparation of ISO/ASTM test specimens for mechanical (tensile and flexural) testing of polymers and composites using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The candidate will also estimate the glass transition temperature of polymers and composite materials through Dynamic Mechanical Analysis and develop osteoconductive polymeric implants for skull base surgery. Furthermore, the candidate will be involved in quantifying the adsorption of biomolecules on polymeric coatings using Quartz Crystal Microbalance with dissipation monitoring to model plaque build-up in coronary blood vessels. Other responsibilities include developing orthotic assistive devices from sustainable polymers and composites and co-developing medical devices with industry partners. The candidate will also assist in filing intellectual property rights related to medical device innovations. In addition to experimental work, the candidate will collaborate with CENTMED staff and leadership to prepare technology documentation and facilitate the translation of innovations to industry.

CENTMED oversees a variety of exciting projects developing new treatments and diagnostics for cardiovascular, neurologic, and metabolic diseases. The successful applicant will join a number of fascinating projects on engineering novel approaches to modulate physiology and neural activity in the brain, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and other peripheral organs. These projects have a high potential for translation towards treating a variety of neurologic and metabolic disorders. Building on Loft Orbital's heritage, Orbitworks will be the first commercial firm in the United Arab Emirates to mass-manufacture satellites. Orbitworks aims to manufacture tens of satellites annually and operates out of a 50,000-square-foot facility in Abu Dhabi.
As we embark on designing, producing, and operating cutting-edge satellites, we are seeking a skilled and versatile IT & Systems Administrator to ensure the smooth operation of Orbitworks’ IT infrastructure, systems, and applications. You will provide hands-on support to employees, manage local and cloud-based systems, and contribute to the security and scalability of our IT environment.

About this Role:- Operational Support
- Provide day-to-day IT support for hardware, software, permissions, and collaboration tools.
- Troubleshoot and maintain local networks, AV systems, and employee devices (Mac, Windows, mobile).
- Support IT needs in lab and manufacturing/test environments.
- Escalate tickets to vendors and coordinate resolutions as needed.
- Infrastructure & Application Administration
- Scale and maintain virtualized and network infrastructure.
- Manage onboarding/offboarding in collaboration with the People team.
- Configure laptops and mobile devices using MDM solutions.
- Maintain AV systems, local IT infrastructure, and administration of key systems including Jira, Netsuite, and others.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Document IT systems, processes, and policies to improve knowledge-sharing.
- Contribute to regulatory and investigatory audits.
- Support InfoSec initiatives and infrastructure hardening efforts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Test Infrastructure, Industrial Ops, People/HR, and Security teams to align IT systems with organizational needs.
- Act as the point of contact for IT requirements across teams and vendors.
- 6+ years of proven IT experience following industry best practices.
- Strong understanding of corporate networking (LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls).
- Experience with SSO technologies and integrations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with Mac & Windows device management, MDM tools, and AV systems.
- Knowledge of MFA, audit readiness, and security best practices. English fluency and excellent communication
- Experience using Linux as a desktop operating system.
- Experience administering Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira).Netsuite administration experience
- Knowledge of industry-standard security practices and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with cloud platforms and scalable infrastructure.
