  • Support initiatives that promote good attendance across the school. Contribute to the development of attendance policies and reward systems, and work with students and staff to foster a culture where regular attendance is valued and encouraged.
  • Work in collaboration with the School Counsellor to enhance students' personal, social and academic growth.
  • Provide special services such as conflict resolution classes; identify cases of domestic abuse and other family problems that can affect a student's development.
  • To support the Lower School Assistant Principal and Middle and Senior School Assistant Principal in cases related to Child Protection/Safeguarding.
  • Behaviour Management and Duties
  • Follow the school's Behaviour Policy.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary within the Academy's Behaviour Policy.
  • Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour, which are expected of pupils.
  • Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learners.
  • Ensure the Mamoura Values DNA language and attitudes are being embedded throughout the curriculum.
  • Carry out duties as directed and within the school's policy.

  • Support the organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor in Social Work or Social Services. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Youth Development, Sociology, or a related field, with four years of relevant experience
  • Social Worker License from the Department of Community Development (DCD)

Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth related social work.

Purpose

Assist students with personal, family, educational, mental health, or social development problems.

Advocate for students and work with other individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, personal, and social development of the student.

Key duties include :

Help students enhance personal, social, and academic growth.

Specific duties : GROUP COUNSELLING

Identifies areas that would be appropriate for intervention in the form of group counselling and regularly forms and leads appropriate groups.

Utilizes both large (classroom) groups and small groups to make appropriate academic and behavioural interventions.

CAREER COUNSELING

Coordinates with the Counsellors regarding career options for students and provides appropriate information to students regarding careers.

Assists the counsellors in providing students with information for career exploration and selection to assist them in making appropriate academic course selections relating to their interests.

Maintains an appropriate library / database relating to various careers for students to utilize in their career explorations.

PERSONAL COUNSELLING

Works with individual students and groups of students regarding appropriate social development issues.

Maintains an awareness of cultural influences regarding social development of adolescents.

Monitors students who may be at risk regarding social issues and makes appropriate referrals for interventions outside of school in consultation with parents.

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills

Appropriate license from Department of Community Development (DCD) to carry out social work services is mandatory.

Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents.

Demonstrable organizational skills.

Strong desire to help others and should be able to inspire respect, trust, and confidence.

Must possess high emotional and physical energy to handle the array of problems addressed.

Arabic proficiency desired.

CAREER COUNSELING:

• Coordinates with the Counsellors regarding career options for students and provides appropriate information to students regarding careers.

• Assists the counsellors in providing students with information for career exploration and selection to assist them in making appropriate academic course selections relating to their interests.

• Maintains an appropriate library/database relating to various careers for students to utilize in their career explorations.

PERSONAL COUNSELLING:

• Works with individual students and groups of students in regards to appropriate social development issues.

• Maintains an awareness of cultural influences regarding social development of adolescents.

• Monitors students who may be at risk in regards to social issues and makes appropriate referrals for interventions outside of school in consultation with parents

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science/Education in Social Work

Minimum Experience

• Minimum of 1 year experience in school counselling or other counselling experience required

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills

• Appropriate license to carryout student counselling

• Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents

• Demonstrable organizational skills

• Strong desire to help others and should be able to inspire respect, trust, and confidence

• Must possess high emotional and physical energy to handle the array of problems addressed.
