Job Description
Physician will be responsible for attending patients in the age group from birth to the first month of life or more
if necessary including cases of all degrees of complexity, according to approved standards of medicine. Work is
performed to meet established medical ethical and legal rules in the field of neonatology and by observing
practices and procedures as required by Medical Services Organization. Works under the administrative
direction of the Head Neonatologist. Supervision is minimal due to the nature of the work involved. The majority
of professional problems encountered are solved without reference to the Head Neonatologist, who is informed
of unusual problems of actions taken regarding unusual cases.
3.1 Performs the professional duties of a neonatologist.
3.2 Makes daily rounds related to patients in the hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the normal newborn
nursery; performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of
neonatology. Orders laboratory examinations and X-rays, determines diagnosis, prescribes nursing and dietary
care necessary, orders or applies such preventive measures as required.
3.3 Provides in-patient care to the newborn and attends difficult delivery or cesarean section deliveries.
3.4 Serves as a consultant in neonatology providing consultative services to the other Medical Services.
Provides technical assistance with pediatric patients. Determines the eligibility of neonatology admissions.
3.5 Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to keep current on latest techniques and procedures of neonatal
intensive care.
3.6 Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians'
conference, or other committees as requested.
3.7 To perform his duties in the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic to see well and sick babies up to the age of one year.
3.8 Provides on-call emergency coverage for neonatal emergencies.
3.9 Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested.
3.10 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital
management to comply those requirements
3.11 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
3.12 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
3.13 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk
assessments, incident reports
3.14 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
3.15 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
3.16 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
4.6 Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients and families
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications4.1 Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Neonatology or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
4.2 At least ten (5) years of practice as a neonatologist with two (2) or more years as a licensed specialist.
4.3 Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
4.4 Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
4.5 Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice as a consultant Neonatologist in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

- Liaising with other medical specialties and support services for additional input.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings to plan effective, safe, and holistic patient care.
- Preparing patients for procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
- Accepting clinically appropriate referrals from various sources, including Emergency Department, primary care, and other hospitals.
- Participating in out-of-hours (on-call) coverage on a rotational basis.
