Job Description
1. Mechanical Design & Engineering:
- Develop detailed mechanical design for STP components including pumps, piping systems, valves, blowers, heat exchangers, compressors, bar screens, grit chambers, clarifiers, aeration tanks, and sludge handling systems.
- Design HVAC, compressed air, and chemical dosing systems where applicable.
- Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, pump head calculations, and equipment selection.
- Develop 2D and 3D models, GA drawings, P&IDs, piping layouts, and isometric drawings using CAD/CAE tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, etc.).
- Conduct stress analysis for critical piping using software like Caesar II or ANSYS (if applicable).
2. Documentation & Standards:
- Prepare mechanical datasheets, material specifications, technical bid evaluations (TBEs), and BOQs.
- Ensure all designs comply with international standards (ASME, API, ISO, AWWA, BS, etc.), local codes, and client specifications.
- Review and approve vendor/subcontractor drawings and documents.
3. Coordination:
- Interface with process, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure design integration.
- Coordinate with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams during all project phases.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and value engineering workshops.
4. Site Support:
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Resolve site queries and support construction with as-built drawings and field engineering inputs.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical design for water/wastewater treatment plants or industrial EPC projects.
- Proficiency in engineering software: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CAESAR II, ANSYS, etc.
- Familiarity with P&ID development, piping class development, and mechanical datasheets.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and associated mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of project execution in EPC mode.
Preferred Certifications:
- PMP, ASME membership, or equivalent professional certifications.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices in EPC projects.

Project Management
- Lead and manage design and engineering initiatives.

- Supervise Consultant work in Review and approval of contractor’s submissions, including RFI’s,
Material Submissions, Shop Drawings, Method Statements and Variations.

- Participate in the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
- Exploring/Sharing new initiatives and technologies that will enhance efficiency in new or existing Data Centers.

- Understand and manage District Cooling Systems (DCP) including plant and chilled water (CHW) networks.
- Wellversed in various types of mechanical equipment installed in DCPs including their selection criteria key performance parameters and maintenance aspects.

- Conduct mechanical design calculations for water storage tanks according to AWWA and API650 codes.

- Collaborate with the piping drafting and design team to meet construction target dates.

Role Summary:The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems and components, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building services. The role requires strong technical skills, project coordination abilities, and adherence to international and local engineering standards.
Responsibilities:- Design sustainable building services (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
- Coordinate with electro-mechanical trades and local authorities.
- Lead design execution and approval processes for complex projects.
- Manage contracts by coordinating subcontractors and suppliers, acting as the primary contact within established plans.
- Develop products and solutions by analyzing customer needs and delivering engineering activities.

Job Description
AECOM are currently seeking experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to be based in our Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices. The Mechanical Engineers will work as part of the wider Building Engineering practice and collaborate with architects structural engineers and project managers to integrate building systems into overall designs.
Responsibilities:
- Create designs specific to their discipline i.e. heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) lighting power distribution fire safety plumbing and energy systems.
- Utilize design software (e.g. AutoCAD Revit Revizto or BIM tools) to produce detailed layouts and schematics.
- Develop sustainable and energy-efficient solutions that comply with regulations and environmental standards.
- Manage project timelines budgets and resources to ensure successful delivery.
- Prepare technical reports specifications and calculations to support project needs.
- Ensure compatibility and functionality of various building services systems within the structure.
- Address challenges in integrating new systems into existing buildings or structures.
- Ensure designs meet local building codes health and safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide solutions to mitigate potential hazards.
- Conduct design reviews audits and risk assessments to ensure the reliability and safety of designs.
- Stay updated on advancements in building technologies materials and energy solutions.
- Explore and implement innovative designs that reduce carbon footprints.
- Adopt advanced BIM modelling solutions including computational engineering for sizing systems in the revit environment.
- Should be able to develop Models to LOD 150 to integrate conceptual spatial planning in design using Revit
- Learn and apply digital delivery workflows through system optimization advanced simulations strategies and multidisciplinary coordination through adoption of Revit tools/Revizto in ACC and BIM 360 environment.
- Develop Digital skills through adoption of Programming languages in enhancing design automation data analysis and system integration.
Qualifications :
- A minimum of 3 years is required in Mechanical Design
- Experience on vertical projects with a particular focus on hospitality and high rise
- A Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering is required
