As Vice President of Data Science will lead the data science efforts of the Emirates Group; synthesize deep statistical expertise with communication and vision to lead and grow the Data Science team. The job holder will transcend the world of theory, bring it to life in the business context and collaborate successfully with cross functional teams including academic researchers, business stakeholders and information technology teams.
In This Role, You Will
- Define the vision and roadmap for Data Science to continuously improve the profitability of the Emirates Group.
- Drive & Develop standard practices and procedures for analysis to ensure accuracy, reproducibility and business value realisation. Provide visibility and interpretations of model performance.
- Lead the discovery process with key stakeholders to identify business requirements and expected outcomes. Prioritise data science projects against expected business value, complexity and time to market. Assess the validity of business strategy recommendations against trend data and steer senior leadership toward making informed, sound strategic decisions.
- Derive business insight from large, structured, semi-structured and unstructured, data sets and work with business stakeholders to deploy insights derived from this analysis to extract commercial value.
- Develop, formulate and execute big data models to solve complex business problems. Research, design, implement and validate cutting-edge algorithms to achieve targeted business outcomes using mathematical models, machine learning, operational research theories and dynamic simulations.
- Build prescriptive models to identify multi-dimensional trends and patterns to understand our customers, optimise revenue and demand management plus drive efficiencies across the operational environment including aircraft operations, engineering, workforce management and catering.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members, combining computer science and mathematics, to identify and inject high-value actionable insights into business processes at their point of highest impact. Work in quick iterations, using the techniques and algorithms best suited for solving the challenging problems of the aviation business.
- Develop and recommend enhancements to existing tools with the goal of advancing the data science capabilities of the organisation. Perform validation and testing of models to ensure adequacy and reformulate models as necessary.
- Actively promote and facilitate the adoption of advanced analytics and data science across the entirety of our organization and provide expertise on mathematical concepts for the broader applied analytics team.
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of high performing data scientists, providing continuous feedback and facilitating professional development. Build and lead a team of data engineers and data scientists. Enable that team to flourish and maintain a high level of engagement and productivity.
To be considered for the role, the Post Holder must meet the following requirements:
- Ph.D. or M.Sc. in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer/Data Science, Physics, Economics, or Statistics.
- Minimum of 12+ years of previous experience in Data Science, and Analytics or Statistical Modelling required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in building and leading a team focused on quantitative analysis.
- More than 5 years work experience in at least 2 of the following disciplines:
- Machine learning and predictive modelling
- Data mining
- Mathematical programming and optimisation
- Information retrieval

- Control theory
- Game theory
