This individual will play a critical role in driving operational implementation of WHS projects/programs across AMET. The role will identify and facilitate best practice sharing across the organization and incorporate these best practices into our standards. It will also actively benchmark and seek solutions to help solve current and future business challenges. This role is expected to travel throughout AMET countries and be able to work flexible hours, which could include day, nights, and weekends and supporting WHS field teams during peaks. This role, based in AMET supporting all business types and will support all networks to execute towards our goals of safety excellence.
Key job responsibilities
The extent of your duties will include:
- Leading the development of the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) 3-year forecast (3YF) strategic plan, setting annual quantitative and qualitative goals and supporting AMET operations with the implementation of the plan
- Reporting to the business on progress against the WHS 3YF plan, both analytical tracking of numerical metrics and goals and providing narrative of qualitative project delivery
- Proactively collaborating on the development of a Health and Safety Management system, ensuring global and regional standards and procedures meet local and regional WHS legislation and best practice
- Managing local documentation control requirements in accordance with the management system structure, supporting documentation, forms and templates.
- Support in the implementation of local WHS legislative and Amazon WHS procedure requirements, across all AMET sites. Ensuring site teams understand the requirements and building action plans to close any compliance gaps
- Proactively collaborating with Amazon Audit and Inspections team, aligning on annual audit and inspections plans, supporting site teams through the audit program, agreeing appropriate corrective and preventative actions and tracking through to completion
- Proactively collaborating on Health and Safety projects, providing authoritative guidance on Health & Safety compliance to all stakeholders
About the team
The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) department, also known as the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department, plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees within Amazon. The WHS team is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments and audits, and investigating accidents and incidents to determine the causes and propose measures to prevent future occurrences. They also have an advisory role for associates and managers in the field of Amazon's legal procedures and requirements. The WHS team is comprised of Safety Specialists, Injury Prevention Specialists, Onsite Medical Representatives, and Hazardous Materials personnel who work together to uphold and advance Amazon's Global Workplace Health and Safety System. The WHS Audit Team conducts systematic evaluations to assess adherence to health and safety standards, mitigate risks, and foster a culture of proactive safety awareness. By identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective measures, the WHS team plays a pivotal role in safeguarding employees' well-being and minimizing workplace incidents.
Basic Qualifications
- Degree level Diploma in Health and Safety Management
- You have significant experience as WHS Compliance Manager, ideally gained in the Middle East Region
- Flexible approach to work, while always managing your own priorities and workload,
- You're able to effectively lead and manage a project, as well as influence peer and other stakeholders
- You possess excellent English writing and oral communication and influencing skills
- You're also comfortable communicating at all levels of seniority within a large organization,
- You possess an in-depth understanding of Health and Safety legislation and management systems
- You can quickly build credibility, using your influencing skills and strategies to build buy-in for change,
- Fluent English language skills
- Arabic writing/verbal beneficial
Preferred Qualifications
- You possess experience of Lean, 5S and Kaizen methodologies,
- Qualifications or experience of environmentally-conscious initiatives would be advantageous.
