Position Summary
The Primary Care PA-C provides routine medical care in a 70-bed involuntary inpatient psychiatric facility. This role involves conducting complete medical examinations, diagnosing medical conditions, and managing medical treatment for routine problems, with consultation from the supervising physician as needed.Responsibilities
- Perform routine H&Ps for every new admission.
- Assess and manage medical conditions, including acute complaints and chronic illnesses.
- Complete Treatment Plan goals for medical care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Consult with psychiatric providers regarding co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions.
- Prescribe, monitor, and evaluate results of prescribed medications.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests as required for medical care.
- Provide substance withdrawal management as needed.
- Accurately and appropriately document medical care provided.
- Implement antimicrobial stewardship practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Washington State Physician Assistant license by the time of employment
- DEA, NPI & prescriptive authority
- Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by the American Heart Association
- Experience providing medical care in family practice, geriatric, and young adult populations
- Preferred experience working with mentally ill populations
- Familiarity with rules, regulations, and professional standards governing the treatment of mentally ill clients
- Interest and ability to provide care for a chronic population with multiple medical and psychiatric problems
