Role Summary
The Animal Care Specialist position participates in the husbandry and training of the animal collection, including the maintenance of exhibit area, preparation of diets/animal feeding and the set-up and maintenance of presentation areas.
ROLE PROFILE

• Monitors and maintains all aspects of animal habitat including air and water quality.
• Participates in daily animal encounter and educational programs.

• Observe animals for signs of stress or illness.
• Ensure all data is recorded in a professional manner using the database provided.
• Ensures all animal areas are kept clean and free of bacterial and fungal growth, including participate in regular scuba diving maintenance on exhibit.

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or Zoology or related field or equivalent experience.
• 2 years of animal training experience, preferably with the care of marine animals.
• Experience in a zoo or aquarium performing daily operations like exhibit maintenance, food preparation and guest experiences.
• Experience in following and implementing AZA zoo and aquarium standards and procedures.
• Open water dive certificate.
• Basic knowledge of training techniques and measuring animal welfare.
