This is an exciting opportunity to join our organization as a laboratory technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of analytical tests and analysis in accordance with established testing methods and instructions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory procedures and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

1. Perform quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests and analysis in accordance with established testing methods and instructions.
2. Collect samples from the plant using internationally accepted standard sampling procedures to produce precise and reliable data to support research studies.
3. Enter test analytical results into the Laboratory Information System (LIMS) and Business Object reporting software to ensure accuracy.
4. Prepare and standardize chemical reagents used in day-to-day working of the laboratory tests and online analyzers.
5. Monitor the correct implementation of sampling procedures and schedules to ensure equipment functions properly and reliable results are obtained.
6. Check and carry out trial runs on newly installed and/or repaired laboratory apparatus and analyzers to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of delivered items.

• Technical Diploma or Secondary School Certificate with a vocational trade certificate in the relevant field.
• 4 years of experience.
• Relevant professional certifications as applicable.

This role will be based in an air-conditioned environment, but may involve occasional site visits that may expose the individual to heat, humidity, and dust.

Minimum Job Requirements

Objective:
Carries out analysis of incoming, in-process, final product, and plant emissions in compliance with the Company's Vision & Mission covering safe plant operations.

Scope of Work:
Conducts the analysis of raw material in-process & final product through a well-organized stringent quality assurance system with an objective to achieve zero customer (Internal & External) complaints and for safe plant operations.

Education:
Bachelor's in Chemistry or equivalent.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the quality control department of a large Nitrogenous Fertilizer complex (Ammonia & Urea & Utilities) or similar industries.

Skills:

• Knowledge of various kinds of analysis carried out in a large fertilizer plant.

• Analytical and problem-solving approach.

• Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and applicable laboratory systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• LAB PROCEDURES:
  • Performs and interprets microbiology procedures for the Clinical Laboratory Department in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Isolates and makes cultures of significant bacteria or other micro-organisms in prescribed or standard inhibitory media and controlling factors, such as moisture, aeration, temperature and nutrition.
  • Identifies micro-organisms via microscopic examination of physiological, morphological and cultural characteristics. Responsible for conducting tests to determine susceptibility of pathogenic microorganisms to sulfa drugs, penicillin and other antibiotics.
  • Prepares and interprets gram stains, acid fast stains, preparations of fungus and parasitology.
  • Responsible for preparing culture media reagents and stains for various procedures. Responsible for observing material derived from cultures and identifying the type of bacterial colonies found.
  • Performs chemical analyses of substances including, but not limited to, acids, alcohols and enzymes produced by bacteria and other micro-organisms.
  • Maintains and manages the daily quality control records in the Clinical Laboratory Department as related to microbiology.
  • Performs and records routine preventative maintenance and instrument function checks on all microbiology equipment in the Clinical Laboratory Department.
  • Performs Proficiency Testing as required and follows established procedures.
• DOCUMENTATION:
  • Responsible for accurately completing records and reports and other statistical information for master files or databases.
  • Follows laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, specimen, and identification, requisition, reporting, charting, and billing procedures. Updates Records and Documents on a daily basis.
• COMMUNICATION/TEAMWORK:
  • Maintains positive working relationship with the medical staff and hospital personnel.
  • Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members. Uses clear and concise verbal and written communication with staff and the public.
  • Acts independently on supervisor's direction and accepts responsibility of the adopted policy and procedures of the hospital and the laboratory.
  • Shares call duty and works different shifts as required.
  • Immediately notifies the patient care unit or physician of any critical test results, within 15 mins of the result generation. Interacts professionally with all department members, physicians' staff, administration and the Director of Clinical Laboratory and Pathology.
• QUALITY CONTROL/QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
  • To perform and follow quality assurance programmes for various laboratory sub departments. Participates in QC/QI for area of specialty and Lab indicators.
  • Does not report patient results unless quality control data are within accepted parameters.
  • Recognizes out of control values, takes corrective action, and notifies others of changes.
• SAFETY AND EDUCATION: Complies with laboratory safety procedures. Possesses adequate knowledge of instrumentation, theory, and application of new and existing tests. Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification for the job. Uses and maintains all laboratory equipment correctly.
• PROBLEM SOLVING/CRITICAL THINKING:
  • Assumes responsibility to resolve problems.
  • Performs required preventative maintenance procedures in laboratory instrumentation.
  • Investigates and resolves technical problems, consults supervisor if resolution involves policy or procedure modification. Identifies real or potential situations or equipment failure, attempts to resolve within area of specialty or knowledge and refers complex issues to appropriate source.
  • May be a key analyzer operator with proper training and documentation of skills.
  • Follows the laboratory safety policies and participates in safety education programs. To attend and follow continuous medical training and education program.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
• At least two (2) years of Medical Laboratory experience.
• Currently licensed in country of origin and with DHA license to practice in Dubai UAE.
• Fluent in spoken & written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential.

• Obtain samples from multiple locations and conduct multiple analyses to determine the quality and reliability of products. Tests for quality, performance and chemical characteristics.
• Evaluates and reports test results in an accurate and timely manner. Uses Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) to enter test results. Determines compliance with Quality standards.
• May set up tests and equipment and conduct special functional tests on products or other materials.
• Ensures test equipment being used is calibrated and in a safe operating condition. Coordinate with the maintenance personnel for any suspected behavior observed in the test equipment.
• Uses the system to enter work orders and requisitions.
• Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
• Perform any duties as assigned by the Quality Manager and/or Laboratory Supervisor.
• Manages the plant's document control and its database, which includes creating, revising, uploading, issuing and retrieving obsolete.
• Supports and participates in the company's goals and objectives.
• Participates in ISO-9001 implementation and ensures compliance with applicable requirements.

• College Diploma or equivalent with basic knowledge in a Chemistry laboratory.
• 1-3 years of experience in quality control and quality assurance.

• Collect samples to be tested, register, test, store, and dispose of them in accordance with applicable standard laboratory quality procedures.

• Before each test, ensure each equipment is in good working order and calibrations are up to date; carry out routine maintenance as well as performance checks, when required.

• Conduct the required tests and record the results accurately.

• Produce test data on standard format worksheets in a precise and timely manner in accordance with standard procedure, and sign the worksheet at the completion of a test.

• Perform test data calculations, plot results and prepare test reports to be checked by a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager.

• After a test, ensure equipment and tools are in good condition, and if not ensure they receive proper attention and rectification; keep superior informed and take appropriate actions. Perform general housekeeping duties in the laboratory.

• Perform an independent check of test data worksheets completed by other technicians and sign the worksheet as checked.

• Provide on- the- job supervision and advice to Assistant Technicians when instructed by Laboratory Manager.

• Escalate unusual findings or difficulty in testing new or varied material or problems that cannot be solved at own level, to superiors well in time.

• Attend training sessions on Standard Testing procedures, Quality and keep self-updated and familiar with the Quality Manual.

Qualifications required:

• BSc in Chemistry or Civil Engineering or Geology or related field.

Skills / experience required to do the job:

• At least 2-3 years of working in a similar laboratory, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience before FME.

• Should have independently tested a variety of soils, rocks, aggregates, concrete and other building materials and be familiar with the usual tests, viz. Sieve analysis, Fineness Modulus, Proctor test(MDD & OMC), Liquid limit, Plastic limit, Plasticity Index, CBR, Field Density Test(Sand replacement method), Core cutting method; Compaction test by sand replacement method, Clay, silt & Dust content of sand; Elongation index, Flakiness index, Specific Gravity, Abrasion Value, Water absorption, Impact value, Crushing strength; Concrete sampling, slump test, Compressive strength, Extracting cores from concrete Structure, Rapid chloride permeability Test, Initial surface absorption Test, Water Permeability Test, Water absorption Test; Cement Consistency, Setting time(Initial & Final), Soundness, Fineness.

• Must also be well acquainted with Industry Standards against which they are tested, e.g. ASTM, ACI, BS, DIN, etc. and have calibrated different equipment/tools over the years.
