Key Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate with site teams for daily inspections and arrange third-party testing accordingly.

3. Handle samples in DCL/Third-party labs.

I am seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering – Substation (Civil & Structural) to lead our Civil & Structural design and engineering efforts for high-impact substation and power distribution projects (domestic and international). As a senior leader in the Engineering Design and Research Centre (EDRC), you will oversee all aspects of design, detailing, and multidisciplinary coordination across multiple geographies, ensuring projects are delivered with excellence, on time, and within budget.

• Lead Civil & Structural Engineering activities for substation and distribution projects across regions.

• Manage a team of Project Engineering Managers, Lead Engineers, Design Engineers, and Draughtspersons.

• Ensure timely delivery of designs and documents aligned with project execution schedules.

• Collaborate with Electrical, MEP, and Instrumentation teams for interdisciplinary coordination.

• Provide technical support to the Contracts & Site Execution teams for design feasibility and constructability.

• Oversee base and detailed engineering to align with international standards and codes.

• Conduct regular reviews of site feedback, risks, and critical issues to support seamless execution.

• Optimize team productivity and man-hour efficiency across all projects.

• Drive innovation, standardization, modular design, and digital engineering practices.

• Represent the Civil & Structural function in internal and external stakeholder meetings.

• Foster knowledge-sharing and continual skill development within the team.

• In-depth knowledge of substation structures: steel structures, RCC structures, and geotechnical aspects.

JOB TITE: ENGINEER - CIVIL ENGINEERING (STRUCTURAL)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Shall Conduct engineering studies related to Structural field when required, to provide clear and

supported recommendations based on the results of the performed studies.

1. Shall Prepare a clear and understandable Structural scope of work for transmission projects in line with the issued Project Parameter Report to ensure coverage of DEWA's requirements in the new tenders and to avoid any ambiguity or misunderstanding in the scope of work by bidders. Review amendments for technical aspects and reply to technical queries raised by bidders during tendering stage. Review the technical offers including deviations submitted by bidders highlight and resolve technical clarification during tendering process. Review of the technical recommendation report.
2. Shall Review and comment on design drawings, documents, materials, BIM Model and vendors submitted by contractors or consultants to ensure quality, compliance with DEWA's specification, qualification methodology, and scope of works. Finalise non-compliance note on submittals.
3. Shall attend factory inspections whenever required to ensure the products are in line with DEWA approval/specification and international standards. Ensure proper documentation of the inspection results and document the observations noticed during the inspection. Review compliance statement and provide recommendations for issuance of Dispatch Clearance.
4. Shall Coordinate and participate in various technical, design and progress meetings to resolve raised technical problems and to ensure the smooth running of projects.
5. Shall Liaise with DEWA user departments to offer solutions on technical issues raised to ensure compliance to DEWA’s requirements.
6. Shall assist in raising change requests on the existing technical specification to be used for future Turnkey projects in terms of optimization, previously agreed deviations, standardization efforts, actual market situation, and lessons learned from past projects to avoid any ambiguity or misunderstanding in future contracts.
7. Shall assist in materials conformity and approvals inline with the approved qualification methodology and ensure the quality and compliance of the product with DEWA's specification and international standards.
8. Shall Assist in investigating and addressing issues reported through the failure feedback mechanism.
9. Conduct site visits and site quality audits, as and when required, to verify the executed work is in line with DEWA approvals and obtain feedback from stakeholders for future consideration in new projects. Attend site investigations with the departments concerned, as and when required, for the failed equipment at site.
10. Responsible for continuously innovating and fulfilling the requirements of driving Corporate Excellence. Facilitating, transferring and sharing knowledge with colleagues and subordinates.
11. To ensure non-disclosure of confidential information to anyone within or outside the Authority, during or after employment in DEWA.
12. To follow and adhere to the OH&S Management System Manual as per DEWA's safety standard.
13. To perform any other tasks assigned by the reporting manager.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education

• Bachelors Degree in civil Engineering
• Diploma in civil Engineering

Experience/Qualification

• Minimum 4 years experience in Structural field for Bachelors degree holder
• Minimum 7 years experience in Structural field for Diploma holder
• Problem solving skills to propose technical solutions
• Knowledge in International Standards (IEEE, IEC, BS)
• Proficiency in technical report writing
• Preferred related experience in engineering design software’s (i.e. BIM, Revit)
