We are seeking a qualified junior 2-4 yr PQE tax lawyer to support our client's Head of Tax. The ideal candidate will be someone who is first and foremost a tax lawyer, but who is also keen to interact closely with, and support, as necessary, the corporate department. We are not looking for someone with corporate experience per se, just the flexibility of mind to work on a joined-up inter-team basis. They will provide relocation from the UK for the right person.
You will support the wider Firm on a broad range of transactional and advisory work including:
- tax due diligence
- mergers, acquisitions & disposals
- structuring, restructuring & reorganisations
- joint ventures & start-ups
- drafting tax clauses for contracting
- preparing reasonably arguable position papers
- risk analysis and recommendations
The successful candidate will have direct and indirect tax experience as well as an understanding of wider tax-related principles and peripheral regulatory matters including:
- Corporate income tax
- Withholding tax
- Value Added Tax (VAT)/Goods & Services Tax (GST)
- Capital gains tax
- Stamp duty, excise duty (and other duties, levies and charges that may be classified as tax from time to time)
- Transfer pricing
- Economic Substance Regulations and Reporting
- OECD BEPS
- OECD Model Tax Convention and the application of Double Tax Agreements and treaty relief
- The successful candidate may also be required to assist with corporate matters, although the focus is expected to be on tax matters.
- The position is based in their Dubai office.

Candidate Profile
The candidate will:
- be qualified as a lawyer at a recognized bar/law society;
- probably have between 2-5 years’ pqe experience advising on direct and indirect taxation matters, gained predominantly in a common law jurisdiction, such as UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand or South Africa. Some corporate experience is preferred but not required;
- have excellent drafting skills and be capable of independent, objective analysis, so as to identify legal issues from complex facts and provide both legal and commercial solutions;
- be able to work under minimal supervision;
- be looking to manage and develop client relationships;
- be solutions-focused, with first-class communication and organization skills; and
- be a native English speaker. Knowledge of Arabic is not required

- Preparation and Reconciliation of data extracted from various IT applications with Oracle Reporting System. This includes cross validation of numbers from system reports with Oracle GL System.
- Daily and monthly track of all Investments, Bank placements, Loans and advances, Deposits and Derivatives transactions including - Movement (Buy/ Sell/ Maturities and valuations) etc.
- Advising on the existing and new accounting policies/ New Accounting Standards/ IFRSs.
- Preparation of Budget Variance Analysis with actual performance at each business and segment level. This includes collaborating with various stakeholders for any budget reallocations within departments.
- Propose the period end closing entries on a timely basis and in accordance with the IFRS / IAS format, as per the agreed plan to ensure efficiency and timeliness.
- Ensure that provisions, accruals, prepayments, and other entries for periodic and annual closing of financial accounts for Bank are complete, accurate and adequately supported.
- Coordination with Risk & Collection team to finalize NPL and ECL working and disclosure as per requirements of IFRS9.
- Preparation of other financial and non-financial Disclosures required in preparation of interim and annual financial statements of the Bank.
- Providing guidance on financial reporting requirements during new product implementation including financial accounting, Policies and Procedures, pre & post system UAT and implementation etc.
- Ensure accuracy of reconciliations of all core products on a daily/ weekly/ monthly basis and report exceptions for correction and follow up to demonstrate efficiency in reporting.
- Prepare all necessary worksheets and financial analysis required by Auditors and other stakeholders.
- Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field .
