The search will prioritize candidates who specialize in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), including but not limited to areas such as deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, reinforcement learning, ethical/trustworthy AI, and interdisciplinary applications of AI/ML in various domains. We welcome applicants whose research advances the theoretical foundations of AI/ML and/or explores novel methodologies and transformative applications that address real-world challenges.

Multidisciplinary research and exceptional teaching in a highly diverse and inclusive campus community are hallmarks of the University’smission . Faculty within the Program of Computer Science at NYUAD are highly collaborative and pursue cutting-edge research that is very interdisciplinary. Their internationally renowned research projects are in fields that include, but are not limited to: artificial intelligence; big data; bioinformatics; computational sciences; cybersecurity; human-data interaction; information and communication technologies for development; machine learning, natural language processing; software engineering and analysis, and theoretical computer science.

There are many collaboration opportunities within the research centers, which include the Center for Cyber Security, the Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES), the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), the Center of Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI), the Center for Quantum and Topological Systems, as well as with faculty in NYU New York’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Tandon School of Engineering.

Available openings are at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor rank (tenured/tenure-track). Applicants should hold a PhD and demonstrate an outstanding track record for their career stage, in both research and teaching. This includes having publications in leading peer-reviewed journals or conferences, as well as experience in or the potential to lead research projects and secure research funding. As part of a multi-year hiring plan, we are interested in excellent candidates from Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, but may also consider other areas of Computer Science, including, but not limited to the fields where we have current strengths.

Successful candidates will receive a generous startup package, as well as renewable research funding to hire research assistants and postdocs, and will also have access to internal funding. Additional research support includes access tohigh-performance computing facilities .

Description

We are seeking a software engineer with a passion for building and validating resilient distributed systems. At Canonical, you can build a career and drive the success of those leveraging Canonical's Ubuntu and Juju to build multi-cloud deployable cloud applications.

The Distributed Systems testing team at Canonical is responsible for ensuring the high quality of Canonical's Cloud solutions based on Juju, Terraform, and Kubernetes when deployed under diverse conditions, from bare metal in customer data centers to public clouds like AWS, GCE, and Azure.

As a software engineer, you will have the opportunity to develop CI pipelines which power Canonical's cloud integration testing and reporting. Upcoming initiatives include expanding deployment capabilities to new clouds and developing AI/ML pipelines for automatic analysis of test results.

What your day will look like

  1. Create automated testing approaches and infrastructure for validating reliability, performance, and resilience of cloud orchestration tools and applications.
  2. Enable engineering teams across Canonical to develop software with confidence by making distributed system testing tooling available across the company.
  3. Enhance continuous integration pipelines for deploying and testing Canonical's cloud native products such as Kubeflow.
  4. Deploy, manage, and debug highly distributed systems.
  5. Monitor and report on automated testing efforts.
  6. Collaborate daily with a globally distributed team.

What we are looking for in you

  1. Solid background in modern test processes and strategies.
  2. Experience with Python or Go development.
  3. Ability to develop and ship production grade modern web applications.
  4. Working knowledge of continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub CI.
  5. Knowledge of networking technologies and fundamentals.
  6. Solid understanding of Linux system architecture.
  7. A capacity for complex abstract thinking.
