We are now looking for a Lead HVAC Engineer to execute projects and support bids in Abu Dhabi.
Reports ToThe Lead HVAC Engineer reports to the Head of Discipline, Mechanical & Piping.
Job OverviewThis job function is to be assigned in projects, taking the role of Lead HVAC Engineer. In addition, the job position aims to be a focal point on all aspects of quality-related issues in the engineering projects and to establish good operational relationships and liaise with the client and subcontractor personnel in order to ensure that the project’s quality goals and objectives are achieved.
Responsibilities and Duties The main duties and responsibilities of the Lead HVAC Engineer are but not limited to the following:
- To assist engineers / Design manager / Discipline Manager for the engineering design of the project.
- Ensure verification of source data, concept & FEED drawings / concepts as required.
- Complete responsibility for HVAC engineering, design and deliverables on projects at all stages of the design process. While the primary focus will be on HVAC design, the successful candidate will be a well-rounded Mechanical Engineer with an ability to adapt and handle various mechanical package equipment, ventilation, refrigeration, and related building services systems.
- Conduct HVAC Design and Engineering activities for projects, from initial concept definition phase through engineering studies, FEED, detailed design and commissioning.
- Review Client's technical documentation and requirements.
- Defines engineering requirements and leads on the technical decisions.
- Participates meetings and workshops.
- Explain technical decisions and have constructive discussions with stakeholders of the technical requirements.
- Understand project’s scope and required technical activities.
- Prepare and / or review Cooling and Heating Load calculations in accordance with standards.
- Prepares HVAC Design Basis and Specifications.
- Preparation of HVAC Duct routing design and sizing.
- Establish sizing and selection of HVAC air terminals, e.g. grilles, diffuser, registers and louvers.
- HVAC Chilled Water system design, sizing of equipment and piping design.
- Ability to develop HVAC Air Flow Diagram, Control Diagram, Ducting & Instrumentation Diagram, Cause & Effect chart.
- Ability to develop Chilled Water / Refrigeration P&ID and Control Diagram, Cause & Effect chart.
- Preparation of HVAC Sequence of Operation & Control Philosophy.
- Preparation of chilled water/Refrigeration Sequence of Operation & Control Philosophy.
- HVAC Chilled Water / Refrigeration system design, sizing of equipment and piping design.
- Prepares the technical documentation / drawings for HVAC requisition.
- Technical evaluation / clarification of HVAC equipment and technical bid evaluation reports to support order placement.
- Provide specialist engineering support to global projects in a major engineering contractor organization.
- Project technical support – familiarity with risk assessments, design reviews, constructability, HAZOP, etc.
- Technical supervision of supplier design and control of supplier interface, review of Vendor documents plus the co-ordination of interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
- Verify that all designs are to required standards & quality and that the objectives of the project are met.
- Engineering Graduate (BEng, BSc. or MSc.) in Mechanical or Technical related degree.
- Over 15+ years of experience and in the specific discipline or in HVAC engineering and design in oil & gas / industrial sector/ EPC projects.Minimum 8 years in a Senior Role.
- Must have worked in FEED and EPC projects and delivered to ADNOC Group of Companies.
- Extensive design experience, primarily in a contracting environment, working with HVAC equipment.
- Technical knowledge in Industrial Ventilation criteria, systems and calculations, and ability to apply these to various application and processes.
- Experience of HVAC calculation software program (Carrier HAP, ELITE, etc.).
- Experience of HVAC design software program (AutoCAD etc.)
- Knowledge in HVAC equipment and item selection as part of the HVAC design practice.
- Knowledge of International Codes applicable to HVAC design (ASHRAE, AMCA and Industry standards) as well general codes and standards used in UAE (AGES etc.).
- Experienced in all stages of project delivery (Studies, FEED and Detail Engineering, Commissioning)
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.
- Attention to details and ability of critical thinking.
- Excellent people management skills with solid understanding of customer interface.
- Team player, hardworking, problem solver, self-driven with can-do attitude. Ready to join in short notice is added value.
- Meets with UAE visa requirements.

Key job responsibilities- Are controls subject matter experts (SMEs) with knowledge of building operations, electrical generation and distribution equipment (generators, UPS, etc.), mechanical plant and strategies (AHUs, chillers, etc.), BMS/EPMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line-ups, one-line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts
- Create, maintain, and disseminate project specific scope of work (SOW) documents, specifications and engineering drawings as well as global design standards
- Operate in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity
- Innovate to develop new solutions to support team and company goals and initiatives
- Interpret and develop a combination of mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings
- Serve as a central point of contact as technical SMEs for multiple internal and external groups regarding mechanical and electrical controls standards
- Manage and prioritize requests for information on new construction builds, existing site facilities support and legacy site enhancement projects
- Ensure systems are deployed and commissioned to documented standards
- Strive for frugality through budgetary review and customer-focused interpretation of needs
- Be technical subject matter experts in mechanical and/or electrical controls
- Anticipate roadblocks and risks with escalation management
- Work quickly and autonomously to deep dive and resolve unexpected challenges
- Effectively manage external consultants’ performance to ensure high-quality delivery
- Review vendor bid packages and make selection recommendations
- Work across multiple projects simultaneously
- Interact with AWS cloud services and other applications to present, archive and analyse data
- Solve problems to drive results while handling multiple tasks
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed to manage projects (circa 25% of the time)
As part of the EMEA controls design team, you will work with highly motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry. You will lead the electrical and mechanical controls design of critical infrastructure projects including HV Substations, Leased and Colocation Data Centres. You will develop new processes and standards and test innovations in the controls space using Amazon leadership principles.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications• Good understanding of electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC.
• Demonstrated leadership in IT technology and MEP/ACS design engineering environments to deliver results.
• Experience driving large-scale enterprise data center projects.
• Fundamental understanding of Data Center IT Infrastructure
• BA/BS degree or equivalent professional experience.
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related engineering degree
• Experience with the use and programming of building management systems (Schneider, Siemens, Tridium, Trend preferred).
• Experience with the use and programming of electrical power monitoring systems (Schneider, Eaton preferred).
• Knowledge of Data Center Facilities Infrastructure and operation (PDU, UPS, Generators, etc.)
• Proficiency in computer applications such as SQL, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
