Job Description
The role of a Research Scholar is to support research within specific areas of research programs and perform various procedures using established methods and techniques.
Key responsibilities include critically evaluating scientific literature and findings, conducting experiments, and interpreting data with the goal of engaging in collaborative scientific work with clinicians to deliver specific research deliverables and publishable articles.
The incumbent reports directly to the Director, Research and indirectly to academic mentors within respective institutes.
The role interacts directly with line managers, recruiters, and other departments as necessary.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs assigned clinical research activities across multiple surgical subspecialties
- Collects and analyzes surgical outcomes data for HPB, liver transplant, bariatric, colorectal, hernia, and pancreatic procedures for research studies
- Collaborates with NYU AD's Center for Translational Medical Device Development on device development projects
- Maintains comprehensive surgical outcomes databases for each subspecialty
- Develops and implements surgical research protocols
- Writes grant proposals and assists in securing research funding
- Prepares abstracts and presentations for scientific conferences
- Writes and submits manuscripts to peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Coordinates multicenter surgical outcomes studies
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patient data
- Assists in prototype testing and refinement of surgical devices
- Copies between surgical teams and device development team
- Performs other duties as assigned
Role Level Accountabilities:
- Adheres to CCAD standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
- In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within CCAD, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The typical physical demands of this role include a high degree of manual dexterity, normal or corrected vision and hearing, extensive sitting, standing and/or walking, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 30 lbs.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:
- Education: Medical Doctor degree
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of research experience within an academic health center or university with high research activity

- Demonstrated good record of scientific publication and outstanding reference
- Demonstrated independent research capabilities, good organizational skills and the ability to work with clinicians and others
- Understands the design of healthcare documentation systems (i.e. Electronic Medical Record, Cardiovascular Hemodynamic systems, Registry Reporting Solutions, Business Intelligence, Event Reporting, Infection Prevention, etc.)
- Proficient in the use of PCs, spreadsheets and other software applications
- Demonstrated ability in using databases, reports and data analysis
