Job Description
Role Description.
We are looking for a committed and ambitious individual to join our Cross Commodity team. You will take full ownership of Cobblestone's European emissions models - EU ETS and UK ETS - and prove you can run them independently within over time. Carbon analytics here is a hands-on role, covering everything from policy analysis and model development to performance checks and ongoing refinement. While we set a high bar, you will receive strong support from Andrej, particularly in the first few months, to help you ramp up effectively. If you are curious, passionate, and eager to grow, this is one of the fastest development tracks in the carbon space.
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Own the European carbon balance sheets (EUAs and UKAs). Refine and expand coverage as accuracy justifies.
- Achieve full analytical independence within two months: steer the models, publish insights, and keep the carbon view running even when Andrej is offline.
- Track policy changes and market drivers to deliver powerful forecasts that move P&L.
- Build data pipelines and dashboards - to provide the desk with real-time carbon intelligence.
- Turn complex analysis into actionable trade ideas and present them to senior stakeholders.
- Collaborate across power, gas, and trading teams to embed carbon insights into broader strategies.
- Reflect critically on daily results, share lessons with the desk, and feed improvements back into tools and processes.
- Show relentless proactivity, spot inefficiencies, propose fixes, and bring fresh ideas to the table.
Requirements
- Work hard: you thrive in high-intensity market environments and are not a clock watcher.
- Independence: a strong analytical self-starter who can run Python/SQL models, interrogate data, and back ideas without handholding.
- Proven internal analytical performance, ideally already adding measurable edge to another book or desk, with basic experience in carbon or solid experience in energy analysis.
- Technical fluency: strong Excel modelling, solid Python (Pandas), SQL, Git workflows; quick mastery of Airflow and Tableau.
- Calm under pressure and quick at turning information into decisions when headlines break.
- Commitment to continuous learning.
- Hungry, curious, passionate, and ready to prove it through results.
Potential Future Growth Paths
- Senior Carbon Trader
- Cross-Commodity Strategist
- Dual-Fuel Analyst / Trader
Target start date: 1 October 2025 (sooner if notice allows)
Application deadline: 5 August 2025
Line manager: Andrej
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Andrej.
