- The identification of genes and epigenomic features that have evolved adaptively or play a role in the response to stress.
- The evolution of transposable elements in a population (epi)genomics context.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop an autonomous research project related to the lab's interests in evolutionary genomics. The Post-doc will be supervised by Professor Samreen Malik and will be part of a research team that works on issues related to development of human capital as well as climate and sustainable development. Some of the topics of interest include how better air quality improves student's health and non-cognitive functions; sleep patterns of children and its relation to their academic achievement; whether households in low income countries adopt water saving technology to overcome water scarcity; whether cleaning air in workplaces impacts worker's productivity. Many of the projects will involve public and private partnership in the UAE and in other countries and the post-doc will be useful for the UAE based partnership, holding meetings, convincing potential partners to collaborate, and present work to the partners and academics. As part of the team, the post-doc will work full-time as co-author on Dr. Malik's projects. The post-doc will also provide Malik?s team of researchers and faculty with Data Analytics, Data visualization, Data Management, coding & development and support of research design. As part of Malik?s team, there will be hands on experience to learn research methods, experimental designs, tools specifically applied to research in social science but more importantly the post-doc will be involved from the initial stages of project allowing an independent experience of carrying out research from start till end.
