The role of a Cloud Professional Services Manager at Canonical
The Field Engineering team is our team of cloud solutions architects at Canonical, working directly with our customers, designing private and public cloud solutions fitting their workload needs. The portfolio of products includes on-premise cloud solutions such as Openstack, MicroCloud and Ceph, and solutions that could be deployed either on-premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc. The team works hands-on with the technologies by deploying, testing and handing over the solution to our support or managed services team at the end of a project. Managers and team members also take part in presales conversations to provide technical advice during the sales process.
A Cloud Professional Services Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. The ability to develop engineering talent, to represent your team from a technical perspective, and to drive collaboration with other teams and customers are all critical to success in this role. You are also expected to actively participate in technical presales to help our department achieve our quarterly goals.

Overview of the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Manager Cloud Optimization to design, implement, and manage cloud solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform. Overview of the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Manager Cloud Optimization to design, implement, and manage cloud solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform. The candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing robust cloud architecture, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, and establishing governance frameworks for cloud environments.
The ideal candidate must have expertise in Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), along with strong skills in cloud architecture, automation, security, and performance optimization. This role involves working closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions. This is a hand-on technical role.
What you will do
- Design, implement and maintain scalable, secure, and cost-optimized cloud solutions on Azure and OCI, with possible integration into SAP and OCI environments.
- Define and develop multi-cloud strategies, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Establish best practices for cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containerization (Kubernetes, AKS, OKE), and serverless computing.
- Optimize cloud resources for performance and cost efficiency.
- Develop and enforce cloud governance frameworks to standardize cloud adoption across the enterprise.
- Implement automated cloud guardrails to ensure security, compliance, and cost optimization policies are followed.
- Establish multi-cloud FinOps best practices, ensuring cost visibility and optimization across Azure and OCI.
- Define Cloud FinOps strategies for cloud cost monitoring and optimization.
- Implement auto-scaling, reserved instances, and serverless architectures for cost efficiency.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and vulnerability management.
- Collaborate with internal audit teams and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to corporate and legal compliance standards.
Networking & Security
- Architect secure networking solutions, including VPC, VNET, subnetting, private link, VPN, and ExpressRoute.
- Ensure secure connectivity between on-premises and multi-cloud environments.
Automation & DevOps Practices
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
- Automate deployments and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Implement containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Research and implement new cloud technologies to drive innovation.
- Optimize cloud architecture for better efficiency and cost savings.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely withdevelopers, architects, and security teams to align cloud strategies.
- Provide technical advisory, POC’s and best practices for multi-cloud adoption
- Conduct training session on cloud governance and base practices
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Communicate cloud strategies and solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

About the Team:
You will be reporting to Head of Cloud Platforms
What equips you for the role:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 8+ years of IT experience in cloud infrastructure, solution architecture, and cloud governance, with focus on Microsoft Azure services such as Azure Virtual Networks, Azure Active Directory, Load Balancers, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Storage Solutions
- Experience with OCI is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices, identity & access management, and compliance frameworks in hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience in multi-cloud strategies, governance frameworks, and compliance enforcement.
- Hands-on experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
- Experience in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience working in regulated industries (e.g. healthcare, finance) is a plus.
- Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400, or AZ-500) are highly desirable.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and on-premises integrations.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, etc.
