Job Description

As the Head of Data Engineering, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust, scalable, and compliant data architecture that supports our exchange’s operations, analytics, and regulatory reporting requirements. You will lead a team of data engineers, ensuring high availability, security, and performance of our data infrastructure. You will work closely with stakeholders across technology, compliance, risk, and product teams to develop data pipelines, warehouses, and real-time analytics capabilities.

This is a strategic yet hands-on role where you will drive data engineering best practices, scalability, and automation while ensuring compliance with regulatory data requirements for a financial services entity.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Strategy :

  1. Define and own the data architecture strategy for the exchange, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and regulatory-compliant.
  2. Design and implement data modeling, governance, and security frameworks to meet financial and regulatory requirements.
  3. Architect real-time and batch processing data pipelines to handle trade data, order books, user activity, and market analytics.
  4. Optimize data storage and retrieval for performance and cost efficiency, leveraging cloud-based and hybrid solutions.
  5. Build and maintain ETL / ELT data pipelines for operational, analytical, and compliance-related data.
  6. Ensure high data quality, reliability, and availability through robust monitoring, alerting, and data validation techniques.
  7. Manage and enhance data warehouses, data lakes, and streaming platforms to support business intelligence and machine learning use cases.
  8. Oversee database design and optimization for transactional and analytical workloads (e.g., Aurora, Redis, Kafka).
  9. Implement data lineage, metadata management, and access control mechanisms in line with compliance requirements.

Compliance, Security & Risk Management :

  1. Work closely with compliance and risk teams to ensure data retention policies, audit trails, and reporting mechanisms meet regulatory requirements (e.g., FATF, AML, GDPR, MiCA).
  2. Implement encryption, anonymization, and access control policies to safeguard sensitive user and transaction data.
  3. Support fraud detection and risk monitoring through data analytics and alerting frameworks.

Leadership & Team Management :

  1. Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of data engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  2. Drive best practices in data engineering, DevOps for data, and CI / CD automation for analytics infrastructure.
  3. Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, data analysis, and product teams to integrate data solutions into the broader exchange ecosystem.

Technical competencies and skills :

  1. Proven experience in data architecture and engineering, preferably within a regulated financial or crypto environment.
  2. Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, or Scala for data engineering.
  3. Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
  4. Hands-on experience with real-time data processing (Kafka, Pulsar, Flink, Spark Streaming).
  5. Expertise in data warehousing solutions (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks).
  6. Strong understanding of database design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  7. Experience implementing data governance, lineage, and cataloging tools.
  8. Familiarity with blockchain / crypto data structures and APIs is a plus.

Leadership & Strategic Skills :

We are currently seeking for an Engineering Operations Technician to serve as a technical resource to support Amazon within our mission critical Data Center. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability in all electrical and mechanical infrastructure within the data center environment in a specific location. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. The role has requirements as being self-managed person who takes the initiative and provides effective solution for complex technical problems. The successful candidates will be expected to have direct and immediate impact on improving the resiliency, efficiency and capacities of our facilities to help offer Amazon’ customers better value with maintaining, operating and troubleshooting, Data Center Operation’s Mission Critical Facilities, which includes stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, as well as three phase electrical systems such as: switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, wet cell batteries and associated systems, CRAC, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, & motors. Tasks:
    · Operate and maintain all mechanical, electrical and HVAC equipment within the Data Center/Facility.
    · Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
    · Develop work plan for emergency repair of critical assets.
    · Operates under minimal supervision.
    · Work on-call and a rotating schedule as needed.
    · Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization
    · Perform shift duty as required.
    · Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
    · Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
    · Perform rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements.
    · Verification on electrical/cooling capacity before new rack install.
    · Create and Close Work Orders with appropriate data, to include labor hours, equipment maintenance, and parts used into asset management system.
    · Maintain changes in state in Mission Critical infrastructure in support of corrective/ preventive maintenance.
    · Testing: Test quality, performance, safety, and reliability of products, equipment, processes
    · To be a front-line responder for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, AHU’s, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems. The successful candidate show be able to demonstrate the following competencies / behaviours:
    - An ability to solve problems through root-cause elimination, stepping back to understand the broader context.
    - Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
    - An aptitude for trouble-shooting and problem-solving complex issue
    - An ability to follow procedures system documentation and track issues through appropriate entries into a Trouble Ticket system.
    - Demonstrate good judgment and instincts in decision making.
    - Prioritize appropriately in a complex, fast-paced environment.
    - Willingness to take ownership for technical issues.
    - Utilize EPMS and BMS to manage building workflows. Physical Requirements:

    · Collaborating effectively with internal & external stakeholders to deliver operational excellence for all AWS customers.
    · Responsible for ensuring that the preventive maintenance of site-critical facility infrastructure is planned and executed to the highest standards, in accordance to AWS procedures.
    · In charge of facility monitoring & supervision (via BMS, PMS, Walkthrough.etc.)
    · Participation in the successful delivery of build-out and retrofit of Data Center infrastructure.
    · Ensuring organizational capability to react & respond appropriately to any potential customer-impacting event on any component of electrical or mechanical infrastructure.
    · Reviewing incident reports, documenting periodic trend summaries, and providing updates and recommended actions to management.
    · Draft, update & maintain method statements, standard operating procedures, emergency response procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and all technical documentation pertaining to DCEO. About the team
