This role is perfect for a data-driven storyteller eager to work on impactful investigations, create compelling narratives, and enhance digital storytelling through innovative visualizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with editors and reporters to uncover and develop data-driven stories.
  • Analyze, clean, and visualize data to produce engaging content for The National’s digital platforms.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data-driven reporting through rigorous fact-checking.
  • Create and pitch original data investigations, introducing fresh, innovative ideas.
  • Work closely with designers and developers to craft interactive visual stories.
  • Provide news insights and context on major events through data analysis.
  • Contribute to The National’s social media strategy with tailored data visualizations.
  • Uphold journalistic ethics and best practices in all reporting.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Data Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in data journalism.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (Flourish, Tableau, D3.js, Adobe Illustrator).
  • Experience with HTML or custom CMS platforms is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to simplify complex data for broad audiences.
  • Fluency in English (Arabic is a plus).
  • Proven expertise in data storytelling, with a strong portfolio.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Data Visualization Journalism and work within a busy team in our vibrant newsroom.

Job Summary :

The Client Data & Reporting Specialist plays a vital role in managing, maintaining, and analyzing client data to produce accurate, insightful reports that support strategic and operational decision-making. This role collaborates across multiple departments to ensure data integrity, generate meaningful reports, support system enhancements, and drive continuous improvement in client services through data insights. The role also supports the Director of Consumers Services in ensuring high standards of reporting quality, automation, and system optimization.

Data & Operation Management

  • Collect, process, and maintain accurate client data from multiple sources.
  • Regularly audit and verify data entries to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Organize and maintain centralized databases for easy data retrieval.
  • Manage the Consumer Services website and ensure its optimal functionality.

Reporting, Data Analysis & Automation

  • Generate accurate and timely daily, weekly, and monthly reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Create customized dashboards and visualizations based on business needs.
  • Perform in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to enhance client services and business outcomes.
  • Manage CRM updates, system checks, workflows, and troubleshoot / report system issues.
  • Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements for data collection, reporting, and analysis.

    Additional duties involve organizing, managing, and documenting the data resources of the program. Candidates are expected to have a working proficiency in SAS and SQL environments .

    Prior experience working on Unix-like environments and HPC systems, as well as familiarity with shell scripts and R/Python environments will be beneficial.
