The Role
Charterhouse is currently partnered with an innovative company within the cryptocurrency mining sector that is looking to hire a Data Operations Lead. This role is pivotal in maintaining the reliability, accuracy, and integrity of data infrastructure across crypto mining and digital asset operations. It combines technical oversight with analytical precision to ensure seamless data processes that support financial and operational decision-making. Our client is open to considering senior-level candidates, as this is a hands-on role. The Data Operations Lead will oversee the maintenance and enhancement of data structures for accurate collection from hosters and providers. The role will be responsible for ensuring validated and consistent data is available for electricity cost calculations and prepayment systems, while supporting timely data flow for financial reporting and operational tracking. Working closely with the Head of Software, the Data Operations Lead will manage applications and systems that underpin cost estimation, prepayment management, and performance monitoring, ensuring uptime and reliability. This position plays a crucial role in the organization. The Data Operations Lead will be responsible for implementing and managing data validation procedures to maintain accuracy and integrity across all systems. The role includes conducting audits to resolve discrepancies, and define KPIs to measure data reliability. Collaboration with Finance and Operations teams will be key to ensuring accuracy in invoicing and cost validation, while close coordination with Infrastructure and Software teams will ensure data architecture aligns with operational needs. Communication with hosters and external partners will be essential to resolve inconsistencies and maintain trust. In addition, the role will involve identifying process gaps, proposing automation opportunities, and maintain detailed documentation of workflows and validation steps.

Requirements
Our client is looking for a Data Operations Lead with a strong background in data engineering, database management, and scalable data system design. Proven experience in performing audits, validating outputs, and troubleshooting complex issues is essential. Operational awareness of electricity cost structures and financial reporting is highly valued, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in French or Arabic would be advantageous. The successful candidate will also possess familiarity with data infrastructure tools, API integrations, and financial reporting systems is expected from the candidate.

You will report to the Head of AI and Data Science for Operational Excellence and lead a team of Data Scientists and a Data Science Manager. The team works within the Finance Department, playing a key role in improving efficiency, reducing risk, and unlocking value across all operational functions.

What equips you for the role
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data science, operations analytics, or AI-driven business transformation.
  • Hands-on expertise with advanced statistics, optimization, survival analysis, causal and Bayesian modelling, time series forecasting, graph neural networks, and recommender systems.
  • Proficient in Python, SQL, Databricks, and ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, ARIMA/SARIMA, Prophet).
  • Knowledge of NLP, transformers, autoencoders, NER, computer vision (OpenCV, YOLO), and model explainability (SHAP, LIME).
  • Experience with MLOps, Git, and visualization tools (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.

ESL Group seeks an experienced professional to join our organization as the Manager Operations, Data Analytics. This key role will drive strategy, oversight, and management of our data and analytics initiatives. This is a pivotal role in driving a company-wide transformation, partnering with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a background in the carrier or shipping line industry, with a deep understanding of their unique data and analytics needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data and analytics strategy aligned with the overall business objectives to drive data literacy and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that align with the business goals and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security throughout the organization by implementing robust data governance and management practices.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage advanced analytics techniques, such as predictive modelling and AI, to derive insights, improve operational efficiency, and enhance service offerings.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in data and analytics and apply them to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, to understand their requirements, provide analytics solutions, and communicate insights effectively.
  • Track and report on key performance metrics related to data and analytics initiatives and present findings, trends, and recommendations to the executive team.

Requirements:

  • Tools Smart forecasting – partners’ and ESL’s volumes using algorithms based on historical volumes and “on the books” data.
  • Deploying AI/optimization – Researching, sourcing and implementing new tools that enhance visibility and decision making, prepare data landscape to take ESL’s offerings online
  • Source all options of external data including known sources on volumes (Eg: CTS, RITAS) and price (Xeneta, CCFI,SCFI). Similarly, also look for ways to build a lead indicator of demand and supply using data from eSea, commodity prices, supply data and others like PMI.
  • Setup data connections and key metrics like booking uptake as well as assist with automation of tasks and reporting
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline. A master's degree or higher is preferred—a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in data and analytics.
  • A background in the carrier or maritime industry, with an understanding of its challenges is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful data and analytics strategies, driving business growth, and delivering actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data management, data governance, and data quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of advanced analytics techniques, such as predictive modelling and AI, and their applications in the industry.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into clear and concise insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Enjoys driving transformation and has experience with change management in complex business environments
