Sustaining Engineering is a business critical team that continuously improves various open source software by resolving software defects reported by customers. Software stack includes everything from the kernel all the way up to the user space applications and IaaS platforms. This position leads one of our regional teams and is one of several managers, who report directly to the global Director of Sustaining Engineering.
Our customers build large-scale mission critical infrastructure and application solutions on Ubuntu and open source from Canonical. While not actively developing products, Sustaining Engineering, as part of Support Engineering, solves problems for the customer and for the benefit of the wider Open Source community. This team is well staffed with experts in every time zone and, while the work can be challenging sometimes, the team is resourced to ensure a good work-life balance and ongoing development of each team member.
As an engineering manager in the Sustaining Engineering team, your primary responsibility is to the people you support: ensuring that they are growing as engineers, making valuable contributions, and generally having a great experience at Canonical. Technical leadership and a solid background in software development are a must, so that you are able to help your team members grow professionally.   • Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers

What we are looking for in you
  • Professional software delivery experience using C, C++, Go, Python, or similar

  • Experience with debugging tools such as gdb, crash or other

As an engineering manager you need to bring both technical and management skills to the leadership of your team. You will also need to represent the team in direct partner engagement. You'll be responsible for the stability and functionality that our cloud users have come to expect. You will strive to automate the delivery of existing and new Ubuntu image products applied to all modern workloads from web servers to GPU-aided AI for servers, VMs, and containers.

Manage design changes, ensuring all modifications are properly evaluated, documented, and communicated.

Coordinate engineering activities across different disciplines, including pipeline, piping, instrument, technical safety, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, to ensure a cohesive approach.

Work closely with Engineering discipline engineers, such as Process / Pipeline / Electrical / Instrument / Technical Safety Engineer / Civil & Structural / Lead Mechanical / Piping, to integrate quality and safety considerations into all engineering work.

Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact on the project.

Ensure that any engineering issues are promptly addressed and that all solutions are effectively communicated to stakeholders.

Develop and maintain engineering quality standards, ensuring all deliverables meet TotalEnergies’ quality requirements.

Work in close collaboration with the Quality Lead to ensure compliance and address any quality concerns.

Act as the main point of contact for engineering-related matters with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Provide engineering support to procurement and construction teams, ensuring alignment throughout the project phases.

Identify opportunities for improving engineering processes and procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Share lessons learned and incorporate them into future engineering activities to enhance project delivery.

Requirements

Professional Experience

Minimum 10 years in engineering management, preferably in large-scale oil and gas sector.

5-8 years in a leadership role overseeing engineering activities, particularly in EPC projects.

Technical Skills

Strong technical understanding of multidisciplinary engineering practices, including Process, Pipeline and Piping, Instrument, Technical Safety, civil & structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

Proven ability to lead engineering teams, manage design changes, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Level / Diploma

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field). Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.

Languages

Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations across the hotel/resort property. The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth functioning of physical infrastructure, safety systems, energy management, and preventive maintenance while maintaining the highest standards of guest satisfaction and compliance.

Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership
  • Supervise and manage the engineering department staff and contractors.

  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations across all hotel systems: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, fire safety, and BMS.

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and programs.

Energy & Sustainability
  • Monitor and optimize energy usage, utilities, and water systems to achieve sustainability goals.

  • Lead green initiatives and compliance with environmental regulations.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with local laws, health and safety regulations, and fire codes.

  • Conduct risk assessments and coordinate periodic safety drills and equipment audits.

Guest & Asset Support
  • Provide engineering support to enhance guest satisfaction by minimizing service disruptions.

  • Monitor building systems for efficient functionality and timely repairs.

Project Management
  • Plan and supervise engineering upgrades, renovation projects, and capital improvements.

  • Liaise with external vendors, suppliers, and service providers for quality and cost control.

Team Management
  • Hire, train, and mentor technical staff to ensure competency in all engineering functions.

  • Establish performance KPIs and ensure high staff productivity and morale.

Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 7–10 years in engineering/maintenance within the hospitality sector, with 3–5 years in a managerial role .

  • Certifications: Preferably certified in Fire & Life Safety Systems, HVAC, or Electrical Systems.

  • Strong knowledge of BMS systems , energy efficiency , CMMS , and sustainable maintenance practices .

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and vendor negotiation skills.

  • Familiar with local municipality and civil defense regulations (for UAE/GCC roles).

Preferred:
  • Experience in working with luxury hotel chains or international hospitality brands

  • Familiarity with LEED-certified buildings or green building maintenance .
