Job Description
  1. To regularly monitor safety standards and procedures in the Terminal, ensuring the smooth running of daily shifts in safety-related matters.
  2. To assist in the implementation of HSE Pillars and the Health, Safety, and Environment Management System within the port, ensuring compliance with international safety standards.
  3. To conduct routine inspections related to fire and safety, ensuring the operational area is compliant in all matters relating to HSE.
  4. To ensure all Health, Safety, and Environment equipment, including pollution control equipment, are tested and maintained to effectively meet emergency situations.
  5. To advise personnel and ensure training is provided in all safety-related matters to all new and existing personnel.
  6. To record and maintain a database of all inspections conducted to follow up and identify corrective actions.
  7. To coordinate with port and local authority bodies for mutual assistance and liaise with Civil Defense during emergencies to mitigate loss of life and damage to property.
  8. To assist the HSE Manager in investigating accidents or incidents to identify conditions that cause accidents and seek actions to prevent recurrence.
  9. To ensure toolbox talks are carried out with members of other departments, ensuring all departments are fully aware of safety procedures.

Overview

The SH&E Advisor will be responsible to assist with identifying SH&E requirements. With the ability to assess and monitor compliance requirements and alignment with local SH&E legislative and regulatory obligations, as well as project and AECOM business requirements.

Role and Responsibilities


  • Serving as the field/project point of contact for SH&E matters.

  • Identify AECOM, Project, and Legislative requirements and align stakeholder compliance.

  • Submit safety inspection reports to the Resident Engineer and/or project leads and engage their support.

  • Review risk mitigation documentation, such as plans, procedures, and task-specific Safe Work Method Statements and Risk Assessments.

  • Check SH&E requirements in method statements, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures submitted by the contractor, ensuring activities are in line with the safe work methodology.

  • Check appropriate maintenance, calibration, and operation of all safety equipment.

  • Check site security, fire, first aid, and welfare facilities and ensure procedures appropriate to the works are provided and adequately maintained.

  • Assist in the investigation of all incidents and near misses, and report in accordance with client requirements and AECOM procedures. Ensure that necessary preventative measures are identified based on the worst potential consequences and applied effectively.

  • Set a high personal example of Health & Safety at all times.

  • Provide upstream reports regularly to the Project and SH&E Leads.

  • Attend risk assessment training and request other relevant training as appropriate.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of UAE and international SH&E regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills , capable of influencing all levels within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Implement EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) standards in alignment with Siemens and project contract requirements.
  • Develop health and safety plans that ensure compliance with legal, customer, and organizational guidelines.
  • Implement and monitor EHS Management Systems following ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, as well as corporate and customer requirements.
  • Participate in EHS core team meetings to identify workplace hazards and establish control measures, including for electrical installations, testing and commissioning, hot work, height work, civil work, mechanical and manual material handling, confined spaces, and machine safety.
  • Provide guidance and training to site personnel on EHS practices and safety protocols.
  • Oversee the selection, evaluation, and performance management of on-site contractors, including handling penalties and incentives.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate EHS training programs at various levels.
  • Conduct EHS assessments, identify unsafe actions and conditions, and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions to the Project Manager and EHS Officers.
  • Ensure the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the availability of safety equipment at project sites.
  • Maintain EHS reporting and coordinate with both internal and external partners on EHS-related matters.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and ensure compliance with EHS requirements.
  • Collaborate with EU, project management, and site management to develop and implement strategies aimed at improving employee safety and reducing risks.
  • Prepare and update the EHS legal register, staying informed about changes in EHS laws and regulations.
  • Recommend updates to internal standards based on evolving EHS laws and regulations.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
  • 7-10 years of experience in the construction industry, with a preference for candidates who have experience in power plants (e.g., switchyards, switchgears, drives, turbines, transformers, and Electrical Balance of Plant).
  • A full-time Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, along with an M. Tech in Industrial Safety or an Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) approved by the state technical board/RLI/CLI.
  • Strong team player and collaborator with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with lean and agile methods, along with validated tools.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate across India based on project requirements.
