The Applied Media Lab Assistant supports faculty and students within the Applied Media program by maintaining the college's laboratories and workshops. The incumbent's scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, maintenance and trouble-shooting of technical equipment and facilities. Job Summary

The Lab Analyst is responsible for conducting analytical and physical testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products within the perfume and cosmetic industry. This role ensures compliance with internal specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. The analyst will use a variety of laboratory instruments and techniques, including chromatographic methods, to support product development, quality assurance, and problem resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Sample Preparation & Analysis:
  • Prepare and analyze samples of fragrances, essential oils, cosmetic formulations, and packaging materials.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine chemical, physical, and sensory tests using chromatographic techniques (GCMS, HPLC) as well as FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer, pH meters, viscosity meters, etc.
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot chromatographs (gas and liquid).
  • Carry out microbiological testing as required.
• Data Recording & Reporting:
  • Accurately record test results, chromatograms, observations, and deviations in laboratory notebooks or LIMS.
  • Prepare detailed analytical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interpret chromatographic data; communicate findings to R&D, production, and quality teams.
• Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure all work complies with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO standards, and company SOPs.
  • Participate in method validation and calibration of chromatographic instruments.
  • Assist with the investigation of nonconforming products and implement corrective actions.
• Product Development Support:
  • Collaborate with fragrance evaluators, formulators, and product developers on new projects.

Qualifications

Education:

Experience:

Technical Skills:

Responsibilities:

1. Perform molecular biological procedures (from field-collected samples like blood, tissue, biopsy, microbes, etc.), including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, library preparation, and sequencing (and all associated reagent preparation).

Lab Technician : Oversee 3D Printing & Laser Cutting Lab, support students, ensure equipment efficiency, and contribute to creative projects.

Description

The purpose of this role is to support the Istituto Marangoni Dubai teaching and learning community by overseeing the 3D Printing and Laser Cutting Lab, ensuring technical support and safe, efficient use of digital fabrication equipment for Interior Design and Fashion Design students.

As Lab Technician, you will be responsible for supervising and assisting students during their lab sessions, reviewing files submitted for printing or cutting, and maintaining the functionality and organization of the laboratory environment and equipment. You will also contribute to the creative and academic environment of the School by enabling experimentation and hands-on prototyping for curricular and extracurricular projects.

Technical and Educational Support Activities

Provide hands-on technical assistance to students during scheduled lab sessions (2–3 times per week), including set-up, supervision, and troubleshooting of 3D printing and laser cutting processes. Review, prepare, and finalize students' digital files for successful fabrication according to lab safety and quality standards. Support the educational delivery of both Interior Design and Fashion Design courses by assisting with technical execution of course-related prototypes and physical model-making. Ensure proper documentation of lab use and assist in the preparation of instructional materials and safety guidelines. Monitor the usage of materials and consumables and maintain adequate stock levels. Report needs restoring the relevant department. Maintain all lab equipment in optimal condition, performing routine maintenance and coordinating any required technical service with external providers when necessary. Ensure the safety of students and faculty using the lab, adhering to institutional policies and protocols for equipment use.

Students' Academic and Technical Support

Guide students in understanding fabrication processes, materials, and machine operations. Encourage safe, accurate, and innovative use of digital fabrication tools in student projects. Provide individualized support to students with varying levels of technical skill, helping them to translate their digital designs into physical prototypes. Support students in troubleshooting errors in their model files or machine outputs. Liaise with faculty members to ensure that lab activities align with course objectives and timelines. Foster an environment of experimentation and problem-solving within the lab setting.

Educational and Professional Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Product Design, Engineering, Industrial Design, Digital Fabrication, or a related field. Minimum 2 years of experience working in a fabrication lab, maker space, or similar technical environment. Demonstrated expertise in operating and maintaining 3D printers and laser cutting machines. Previous experience working with students or in an educational context is preferred. Familiarity with design file formats (e.g., STL, DXF) and CAD software (e.g., Rhino, Fusion360, Illustrator, Cura, PreForm, etc.). UAE residency preferred. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple requests and workflows. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and external service providers. The Science Lab Assistant shall support the Middle School Science team in laboratory and regular classroom work. In addition, the School Science Lab Assistant will, under the direction and support of the teacher, provide high quality, relevant and on-site development assistance to students. • Relevant certifications in software engineering or programming language/frameworks are desirable (e.g., Certified Scrum Master, Certified Associate in Python Programming, etc).
• Preference is given to candidates with at least 3 years of industry experience as a software engineer.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely to students and ability to interact with people at all levels of an organization.

• A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to improve current skills and acquire new skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization.
• Previous teaching assistant experience is beneficial.

• Lead lab sessions where students practice programming concepts and software development/engineering principles, focusing on students' acquisition of competencies by practical application of skills.
• Provide one-on-one assistance to students during labs, ensuring comprehension of programming principles and troubleshooting code.
• Monitor progress of student learning and support their continuous learning process by offering guidance and feedback.
• Grade lab assignments and projects, provide constructive feedback, and assess students' progress.
• Work with other instructors to align lab work with lectures and overall course objectives.
• Keep up with the latest programming languages, frameworks, libraries, tools, best practices, and industry trends to ensure that the lab instruction is relevant.
• Ensure that all computers and software in the lab are up to date and functioning properly.
