Perform clinical laboratory tests, such as hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, bacteriology, mycology, serology, parasitology, endocrinology, general immunology, and urinalysis.
Ensure the efficient running of the assigned section/department/lab, which includes routine work of different aspects of clinical investigations, sterilization of laboratory equipment, etc.
Collect and process samples, verify specimen identification and investigate and resolve testing issues.
Perform special handling and packing of referral samples.
Ensure that sufficient quantities of laboratory chemicals, test kits and equipment are available at all times. Includes raising requisitions and taking stock.
Prepare basic laboratory reagents.
Mail and file lab reports.
Maintain all instrumentation and testing procedures within established quality control standards.
Ensure that the proper disposal of Laboratory Contaminated Medical Waste and Sharp items in compliance with current HSE regulations.
Responsible for attending mandatory departmental and hospital in-service and competency programs.
Perform all duties in a manner that is consistent with PHCG Code of Conduct.
Attend mandatory departmental and unit meetings.
Ensure compliance with all QC protocols.
Look for opportunities to improve systems, processes and work practices – both within your own position and the organization as a whole.
Perform special phlebotomy procedures.
Maintain necessary supplies and inventory.
Participate in continuing education programs to maintain licensure and remain updated on changes in the medical technology field.
Perform all other duties as required or assigned.

• Prepare samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and freezing as needed and ensure appropriate packaging and transportation of samples to external laboratories and within internal Emirates Group facilities.
• Handle telephone and Emirates Group Medical Services (EGMS) mailbox queries from both patients and clinicians.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of all laboratory activities in compliance with ISO 15189:2022 including calibrations and Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) schedules of non-analytical equipment, inventory and stock levels of supplies and reagents.
• Set up samples for analysis and point-of-care testing, manage sample loading, result entry, and validation, and monitor non-analytical laboratory equipment, including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting when required.
  

• Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field.
• 4+ yrs experience as a Generalist Medical Laboratory Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  

• Experience in a clinical laboratory setting in UAE that is ISO 15189:2022 accredited is preferred.
• Licensed to practice as a medical laboratory technologist by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
• Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
• Proficiency in maintaining analytical and non-analytical equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• LAB PROCEDURES:
  • Performs and interprets microbiology procedures for the Clinical Laboratory Department in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Isolates and makes cultures of significant bacteria or other micro-organisms in prescribed or standard inhibitory media and controlling factors, such as moisture, aeration, temperature and nutrition.
  • Identifies micro-organisms via microscopic examination of physiological, morphological and cultural characteristics. Responsible for conducting tests to determine susceptibility of pathogenic microorganisms to sulfa drugs, penicillin and other antibiotics.
  • Prepares and interprets gram stains, acid fast stains, preparations of fungus and parasitology.
  • Responsible for preparing culture media reagents and stains for various procedures. Responsible for observing material derived from cultures and identifying the type of bacterial colonies found.
  • Performs chemical analyses of substances including, but not limited to, acids, alcohols and enzymes produced by bacteria and other micro-organisms.
  • Maintains and manages the daily quality control records in the Clinical Laboratory Department as related to microbiology.
  • Performs and records routine preventative maintenance and instrument function checks on all microbiology equipment in the Clinical Laboratory Department.
  • Performs Proficiency Testing as required and follows established procedures.
• DOCUMENTATION:
  • Responsible for accurately completing records and reports and other statistical information for master files or databases.
  • Follows laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, specimen, and identification, requisition, reporting, charting, and billing procedures. Updates Records and Documents on a daily basis.
• COMMUNICATION/TEAMWORK:
  • Maintains positive working relationship with the medical staff and hospital personnel.
  • Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members. Uses clear and concise verbal and written communication with staff and the public.
  • Acts independently on supervisor’s direction and accepts responsibility of the adopted policy and procedures of the hospital and the laboratory.
  • Shares call duty and works different shifts as required.
  • Immediately notifies the patient care unit or physician of any critical test results, within 15 mins of the result generation. Interacts professionally with all department members, physicians’ staff, administration and the Director of Clinical Laboratory and Pathology.
• QUALITY CONTROL/QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
  • To perform and follow quality assurance programmes for various laboratory sub departments. Participates in QC/QI for area of specialty and Lab indicators.
  • Does not report patient results unless quality control data are within accepted parameters.
  • Recognizes out of control values, takes corrective action, and notifies others of changes.
• SAFETY AND EDUCATION: Complies with laboratory safety procedures. Possesses adequate knowledge of instrumentation, theory, and application of new and existing tests. Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification for the job. Uses and maintains all laboratory equipment correctly.
• PROBLEM SOLVING/CRITICAL THINKING:
  • Assumes responsibility to resolve problems.
  • Performs required preventative maintenance procedures in laboratory instrumentation.
  • Investigates and resolves technical problems, consults supervisor if resolution involves policy or procedure modification. Identifies real or potential situations or equipment failure, attempts to resolve within area of specialty or knowledge and refers complex issues to appropriate source.
  • May be a key analyzer operator with proper training and documentation of skills.
  • Follows the laboratory safety policies and participates in safety education programs. To attend and follow continuous medical training and education program.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
• At least two (2) years of Medical Laboratory experience.
• Currently licensed in country of origin and with DHA license to practice in Dubai UAE.
• Fluent in spoken & written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential.

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the laboratory, with direct involvement in the quality management system, document preparation and review, accreditation processes, analytical performance, and the implementation of a safe laboratory environment. • Provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses.
• Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood and urine.
• Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
• Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needed supplies
• Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests made by other members of the clinical team
• Prepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
• Maintain inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Participate in any accreditation process such as JCI and CAP.
• Perform ongoing maintenance of tests and equipment
• Participate in the proficiency testing program.
• Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
• Maintain patient confidence and protect the clinic by keeping information confidential.
• Adhere to all laboratory and GluCare policies and procedures.
• Prepare specimens for referral if needs arise following local and international regulations and defined procedures.
• Other tasks as delegated by the laboratory director

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology with at least 2 years of experience.
• Holds a DHA practice license
• Skill in fine, precise manipulation of equipment and materials
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment while working with high-expectation patients
• Advantage: Experience in a CAP/ ISO/ JCI accredited laboratory
