As a Manufacturing Engineer , you will be a key contributor to the successful assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of satellites. You will define, develop, and implement efficient and reliable manufacturing processes, ensuring smooth satellite production from component-level integration to final system testing. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and test engineers to drive improvements in process efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

About This Role:
  • AIT Process Development: Define and document the complete AIT flow for satellite manufacturing, including assembly sequences, integration procedures, and test protocols.
  • Develop detailed work instructions, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure design for manufacturability and ease of assembly.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to define test requirements and develop test fixtures and equipment.
  • Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely availability of materials and components.
  • Coordinate with quality control teams to ensure manufacturing processes meet all required standards.
  • Facility Setup and Equipment Selection: Assist in the planning and setup of the satellite manufacturing facility, including cleanroom layout and equipment selection.
  • Evaluate and recommend manufacturing equipment, tools, and fixtures.
  • Oversee the installation, calibration, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Process Optimization and Troubleshooting : Monitor and analyze manufacturing processes to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to address recurring issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date manufacturing documentation, including process records, test reports, and equipment logs.
  • Prepare regular reports on manufacturing performance, process improvements, and progress.
  • Contribute to the creation of "as-built" documentation for all manufactured hardware.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry standards, and internal quality procedures.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols in the manufacturing facility to maintain a safe working environment.
Must Haves:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on aerospace, defense, or high-tech industries.
  • Strong understanding of satellite AIT processes, manufacturing principles, process development, and quality control.
  • Experience with space qualification testing procedures and standards, thermal vacuum testing, thermal ambient testing, and vibration testing.
  • Experience with cleanroom procedures and protocols.

JOB PURPOSE

KEY ACCOUNTABILTIES

Supervision

  • Work with team members to identify deviations or errors in product quality and find solutions for preventive or corrective action. Conduct cause analysis to eliminate faults.

Production Capacity and Process Capability

  • Select and inspect new plant machinery and equipment and assist machinery vendors in commissioning, refurbishing, repair or upgrade of existing machinery to enhance production capacity or process capability
  • Study, investigate and analyze process problems, root causes and work with process engineers to resolve these problems
  • Conduct process trials on raw materials, new products or new methods to approve new processes or materials for future use
  • Provide input to NPD and the Technical team on manufacturing feasibility of new products

Customer Service

  • Analyze any customer complaints received in order to troubleshoot causes and provide solutions to address these complaints
  • Submit and implement customer complaint corrective actions

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in programs for innovation and continuous improvement in pursuit of greater productivity
  • Conduct capability studies and execute improvement projects using methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma and process trials to achieve continual improvement in products or processes and share this information across all Ducab sites
  • Implement and maintain SPC tools in the manufacturing processes as part of Ducab's continuous improvement projects
  • Identify and correct process related problems to ensure uninterrupted production

Project Tasks

  • Participate in projects and task forces as assigned by management from time to time
  • Identify and implement cost savings projects using lean methodology and report to Management

SAP System

  • Maintain SAP PP Master data and validation of new materials to provide information for costing purposes
  • Conduct audits to ensure shop floor employees are entering SAP data correctly

Cost Reduction

  • Monitor and measure cable scrap into planned and unplanned categories in order to control the level of scrap and achieve cost reduction targets

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:
Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Metal Science Engineering with good knowledge of statistical software such as Minitab. A Green belt in Six Sigma and exposure to the advanced level to Kaizen, Process Re-engineering and Lean Manufacturing

Desirable:

Waste Reduction: Implement strategies to eliminate waste (TIMWOODS: Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing, Defects, and Skills) and increase efficiency.

Continuous Improvement: Lead Kaizen events and root cause analysis (RCA) sessions to drive sustainable improvements.

Standard Work & SOPs: Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure process consistency.

Production Support: Work closely with operators and production managers to resolve bottlenecks and improve workflow.

Performance Metrics: Define and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), First Pass Yield (FPY), and defect rates.

Training & Coaching: Educate and train employees on Lean methodologies and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to integrate Lean principles into product development and production planning.

Automation & Digitalization: Identify opportunities for Industry 4.0 solutions, such as digital work instructions, IoT-enabled process monitoring, and real-time data analytics.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Education: Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: 2-5 years of experience in a Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement role.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green Belt preferred), and Kaizen methodologies.

Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and PLM/PDM systems.

Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design tools (optional).

Knowledge of statistical analysis tools (Minitab, JMP) and data visualization (Power BI, Tableau).

Soft Skills:

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.

Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or IATF 16949 standards.

Background in automotive, aerospace, or marine manufacturing.
