Healthcare Support Specialist

Job Description:

  • Welcomes patients or their families and determines the nature of their inquiry.
  • Provides information to assist patients or refers them to appropriate contacts within the organization or elsewhere.
  • Advocates for patients' and their families' rights, confidentiality, information, and education.
  • Develops and maintains a feedback/complaint procedure for customers to use and receive redressal.
  • Communicates all information to Floor Supervisors on a daily basis.
  • Expedites the flow of visitors/patients and ensures each person receives outstanding customer service by providing a friendly environment, timely and prompt assistance, and optimizing waiting time. Provides adequate information as needed.
  • Provides information about medical insurance coverage to patients and diligently checks it before sending them to the doctor.
  • Investigates patient/visitor concerns and implements appropriate courses of action.
  • Ensures proper billing of services rendered by patients through the Hospital Information System (HIS).
  • Keeps accurate records of discussions or correspondence with customers.
  • Performs duties related to handling patient/telephone/cash/back office work as specified in the duty roster.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein, as assigned by higher authorities.
  • Provides communication support to assist colleagues, including clinicians and nurses, in communicating with patients who have language barriers, thereby ensuring smooth information flow in clinic settings or otherwise.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications

A graduate degree in any discipline is preferable.

A minimum of 1-year experience as a receptionist in a patient-focused environment, preferably with experience operating a multi-line switchboard system.

Interest in working in a hospital-related environment.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment, and the ability to communicate professionally with diverse individuals are essential.

Superior phone etiquette skills are required.

Efficient organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities under pressure while maintaining composure are necessary.

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is also required.

Reliability, punctuality, dependability, and responsiveness are essential qualities.

Excellent command of oral and written English is required, and Arabic language proficiency is advantageous but not essential.

The Case Coordinator will coordinate/delegate to the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient care progression, working collaboratively with physicians, nursing, and other team members to ensure timely and appropriate management.

The Case Coordinator will understand patient benefits under insurance contracts to maximize care within cost constraints and collaborate to obtain necessary documentation.

The Case Coordinator will monitor patient progress, consult with Senior Case Coordinators, and intervene as necessary to ensure quality, efficient, and patient-focused care.

Quality & Safety

The Case Coordinator will participate in performance improvement activities, collect and report indicators, analyze data, and support quality assurance programs.

The Case Coordinator will assist in developing CQI processes and participate in projects related to clinical pathways, quality tools, and data analysis.

The Case Coordinator will support physicians regarding clinical documentation, medical necessity, case mix, and severity of illness. Educate and counsel patients and families, staying updated on professional practice developments.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing OR
  • Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA (minimum 2 years) AND
  • Successful completion of the National exam (NCLEX - RN for USA, Provincial Licensing Exam for Canada) OR
  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (minimum 3.5 years) OR
  • Diploma in Nursing (minimum 3 years)

In addition, candidates should have:

  • Charge Nurse experience (2 years) in Case Management OR
  • Staff Nurse experience (4 years) in Case Management OR
  • Current SEHA Senior Charge Nurse, Charge Nurse, or Staff Nurse with completed SEHA Case Management Training Program (for current SEHA employees only)

Prior experience in large healthcare facilities is desirable. Specialist certifications are required for external hiring, and desired for existing staff and internal hiring.
