Responsibilities

  • Being an active brand team member to support overall strategy and execution. Provide medical/scientific input into marketing strategy and key commercial initiatives, as required.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge for assigned product(s) / relevant therapeutic area(s) through attendance / participation at key internal meetings/training sessions, relevant congresses, and seminars and by regular self-study of the national/area literature.
  • Provide expert medical/scientific advice for assigned products and related therapeutic areas, including responding to requests for scientific/technical information; contribute to the development and medical and scientific accuracy of core dossiers generated by the medical department (i.e., pricing and reimbursement dossiers, HEOR dossiers, medical information packs, clinical expert reviews etc.).
  • Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with External Experts (EEs) and academic centers; this will involve participating in scientific congresses, coordinating advisory boards, round-table meetings, discussion forums etc.
  • Deliver scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where appropriate.
  • Screen relevant literature and other information from relevant scientific societies meetings and conferences and develop summaries of key messages for use within the company (e.g. key areas of scientific/company interest, new trends in diagnosis, monitoring and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.)
  • Deliver training to sales forces and other departments; develop and update relevant training materials.
  • Clinical Research Activities:
  • Design and implement clinical research projects within defined standards and budgets (e.g., Phase IV, post marketing clinical activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys, and PMOS studies).
  • Provide the required oversight to manage review, approval and conduct of IIS studies.
  • Support the affiliate Clinical Research Department in the management of clinical studies, as appropriate (e.g., review new clinical study protocols, identifying potential investigators/sites, conducting feasibility surveys).
  • Review and preparation of promotional / non-promotional material. Ensure the medical/scientific content is correct, balanced fair and fully compliant with AbbVie s internal policies and guidelines and in accordance with local laws.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.
  • Provide input, as required, into the development of product or TA specific strategic medical affairs plans for the affiliate medical department and local commercial plans; collaborate and partner with local business partners to ensure that medical activities for assigned products / therapeutic areas are aligned with local business-related strategic plans.

  • At least 4- 6 years of work experience in 'big picture' corporated strategy-related work within Healthcare and Life Science industry.
  • Ability to make detailed assessments of industries, products, markets, competitors and customers to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic languages, including the ability to listen, understand, read and communicate effectively, both written and verbal, in a professional environment.
  • Strong organizational, poblem-solving and time management skills, with the ability to perform well in fast-paced environments and meet project timelines.
  • Willingness and ability to work remotely and travel within the MENA, when necessary (approx. 25-75% of time).

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • MBA or Masters from a top tier business school.
  • Prior experience with a particular focus on client advisory or strategic planning with the ability to multitask and work efficiently within a fast-paced environment.

The Director Payer Relations is responsible for leading the strategic management of relationships with insurance companies, government payers, and corporate clients. The role focuses on negotiating contracts, optimizing reimbursement models, and ensuring compliance with payer agreements to maximize revenue and operational efficiency across the group.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key insurance providers, government payers, and corporate clients.
  • Act as the primary liaison for all payer-related matters, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of issues.
  • Negotiate favorable contract terms, payment structures, and reimbursement rates to enhance financial performance.
  • Lead contract negotiations, focusing on pricing, payment models, and service coverage agreements.
  • Develop and implement value-based care agreements and alternative reimbursement strategies.
  • Monitor contract compliance, track performance against key contractual metrics, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze payer mix, reimbursement trends, and payment cycles to optimize revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with RCM and Finance teams to address payment delays, reduce revenue leakage, and enhance collections.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with denied claims and underpayments.
  • Work closely with Strategy, Finance, RCM, Operations, and Clinical teams to align payer strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Provide data-driven insights and reports on payer performance, contract effectiveness, and revenue impact.
  • Stay updated on market trends, competitor agreements, and regulatory changes impacting payer relationships and reimbursement models.

Key Requirements :

  • This is a Senior Leadership strategic role requiring well-developed complex negotiation skills and established relationships with major insurance companies in the region (must have requirements)
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Management or related field
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in payer relations, insurance contracting, or revenue cycle management within the healthcare sector.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role, with proven experience in leading high-stakes negotiations and managing payer relationships at an enterprise level
  • Strong understanding of healthcare payer systems, reimbursement models, and contract frameworks
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills with a strategic mindset
  • Ability to analyze complex data and translate it into actionable strategies
