Job Description

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a highly motivated research assistant to contribute to an interdisciplinary research project focused on disaster risk management (DRM) using remote sensing (RS) and artificial intelligence (AI). The project aims to develop innovative methods for detecting, monitoring, and assessing natural and human-induced hazards (e.g., floods, earthquakes, wildfires, erosion) to support sustainable development and climate resilience, in alignment with the COP28 UAE Declaration on Climate. The research assistant should be knowledgeable of Remote Sensing and GIS techniques.

Minimum Qualification

  • Educational degree with documented evidence in remote sensing, GIS, or related fields.
  • Experience in processing and analyzing remote sensing datasets.
  • Developing AI/ML models for hazard detection, risk assessment, and early warning systems.
  • Conducting geospatial analysis (GIS-based modeling, change detection, vulnerability mapping).

Job Purpose

The Research Assistant will support research projects within the Center for Applied and Translational Genomics (CATG) through implementation of assigned laboratory work (wet lab and/or computational). The role includes conducting experimental and analytical procedures, managing laboratory operations, overseeing procurement and inventory, maintaining equipment, and preparing materials for research and teaching activities.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Experimental Work

  • Conduct research activities as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Design, plan, and execute experiments; implement research protocols; develop new ideas that advance the project's objectives.
  • Stay updated with the latest research developments in relevant fields.
  • Collect, store, and analyze experimental/clinical data.
  • Disseminate results via publications, posters, and oral presentations at scientific meetings.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams within MBRU and external academic/clinical partners.

Qualifications & Experience

Technical Skills

  • DNA/RNA extraction and purification.
  • Library preparation for short-read and/or long-read genome sequencing.

The Department of Chemistry at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is seeking applications for a full-time research assistant to target overexpressing proteins in breast cancer using a combination of drugs by a unique targeted drug delivery system. The successful candidate will be offered a two-year position in a research project supported by a UAEU research council. The candidate will be involved in a project investigating the delivery of drugs in breast cancer cell lines and in-vivo mouse models. The goal of the project is to validate the effectiveness of our novel delivery system, assessing the potential of targeting different proteins for HER2+ cancer management, and exploring broader therapeutic applications. Cell culturing techniques coupled with molecular biology techniques, data analysis, and in vivo studies on breast cancer mouse models will be done in the project.

Minimum Qualification

Highly self-motivated candidates with or fresh PhD in Biochemistry/Immunology/Oncology with a strong academic track record and relevant experience in molecular biology (cloning, electrophoresis, protein purification, western blotting, qPCR), cell culturing techniques, basic bioinformatics, and mice handling techniques are encouraged to apply. Practical experience with HER2+ breast cancer cells, drug delivery systems, and animal handling would be advantageous.

Preferred Qualification

Fresh PhD in Biochemistry/Immunology/Oncology.
