NYUAD Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research scientist to work on the development of membrane desalination to treat water from the Arabian Gulf feed sources and on the design and scale-up of low energy membranes for water purification, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering. The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on developing functional membrane materials, including nanostructured polymer membranes tailored to microfiltration, ultrafiltration, membrane distillation, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The candidate will employ advanced membrane fabrication techniques and characterization tools (SEM, TEM, DSC, TGA, BET, etc.) to establish fabrication-structure-property-performance relationships in novel materials for sustainable desalination and water treatment. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate students and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will manage projects and work closely with postdoctoral researchers, build deep technical knowledge and develop transferable solutions. He/she will participate in developing novel concepts and writing proposals. He/she will work towards solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents and presenting results at conferences. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of materials science and engineering, membrane fabrication techniques, membrane characterization tools and separation processes. He/she will be detail-oriented, well-organized and will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants must hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, and have a minimum of five years? experience as a Postdoctoral Research Associate . Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication and characterization) are required. Candidates with demonstrated history of peer reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in materials science and analytical chemistry will be preferred. This position will begin in March 2026 as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance. The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM), New York University Abu Dhabi, are inviting applications for a Kawader fellows in the areas of thermal, mechanical and electrical characterization of materials.
The candidate will work as a research fellow with the CSEM and the Smart Materials Lab (Naumov research group), nyuad.nyu.edu/en/research/faculty-research/naumov-group.html). The role will involve preparing, characterizing and testing new smart materials, at the intersection of materials science, chemistry, and engineering. A strong background in thermal or mechanical characterization of the surface and bulk properties of solids from either science (solid-state physics) or engineering (mechanical) is a requirement. The specific research projects will focus on both experimental and modeling aspects of the effects of temperature on mechanical properties, such as ability for elastic or plastic deformation. The candidate will conduct experiments related to assigned research projects, process the data, and prepare results for presentation in articles and conferences. Additionally, the candidate will submit biweekly reports on their research and participate in group seminars. Training students, such as capstone students or interns, and other researchers on techniques within their research domain is also part of the role. The candidate will collaborate with the staff of the Core Technology Platforms to receive training on available analytical techniques.
The candidate should have a background in mechanical engineering, solid-state physics or chemistry, or materials solid-state chemistry. Candidate with experimental skills and/or modelling experience with characterization of thermal and mechanical properties, and with a strong publication record in engineering or science will be given a priority.
The candidate will also work on individualized research projects under the supervision/mentorship of the supervisor.

Summary of the roleThe CSLC is looking to hire a researcher with expertise in glacier and ice shelf modelling. The scientist will work with others in a team to characterize Antarctic glaciers and assess their instability. The incumbent will perform research on the dynamics of Antarctic glaciers and the effect of ocean and atmosphere on their motion and instability. The work involves, in addition to modelling, the development of diagnostics using satellite and ground-based observational datasets and the possibility to join field campaigns in Arctic and Antarctic.
Main Duties and Key responsibilities- Conducting and analyzing experiments on glacier dynamic processes using a glacier model, satellite observations and ground-based observations to assess their instability.
- Developing diagnostics of the physical processes involved in the interactions between glaciers, ice shelves, ocean, sea ice and atmosphere, based on observational and numerical datasets.
- Conduct scientific studies, publish results in peer-reviewed journals and communicate about them in international conferences.
