Qemtex is looking for a dedicated Research and Development Laboratory Technician to join our R&D team in Dubai. The role involves preparing high-quality samples according to the formulas provided by our R&D chemists and conducting all necessary performance tests for the prepared powder samples.

• Prepare powder samples that meet the required standards based on the formulas written by R&D chemists.
• Perform color matching according to RAL, Pantone, and other custom color specifications.
• Operate lab equipment, including grinders, extruders, mixers, dry-blenders, bonding machines, and other characterization tools.
• Plan and coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive maintenance and lab equipment repair.
• Follow all safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and workplace safety standards.
• Inspect finished products for defects and ensure they meet quality standards for new formulas.
• Maintain detailed records of coatings, batches, and work orders.
• Document any deviations or issues related to standard procedures for all formulas.

The Lab Specialist provides high-quality support to the RIC2D laboratories, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations and enabling world-class research. This includes advanced equipment management, conducting precise measurements, training staff, offering expert advice on analytical techniques, and ensuring compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) regulations.

The role requires a strong background in the science, applications, testing, and characterization of 2D materials, as well as expertise in clean-room operations, single-layer deposition equipment, and advanced microscopy and electrochemistry techniques. The Lab Specialist plays a key role in supporting the research and commercialization goals of RIC2D by promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Laboratory Safety

• Ensure full compliance with Khalifa University EHS policies and guidelines.
• Conduct and review risk assessments and safety hazard reports.
• Proactively identify and address safety concerns and implement continuous safety improvement measures.

Laboratory Management

• Develop and enforce operational technical protocols and procedures for lab equipment and activities.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment, consumables, and chemicals.
• Prepare operational logs and analytical reports to support data-driven decision-making.
• Identify and resolve repetitive equipment issues and implement preventive maintenance programs.
• Conduct effective and timely planning of gas resources management and re-supply to ensure un-interrupted lab operations.

Technical Support

• Maintain proficiency in clean-room operations, procedures, and best practices.
• Provide insights into macro-scale material fabrication, including additive manufacturing and 2D material-enhanced matrices, membranes, and composites.
• Conduct and support potentiation experiments, as well as operate and maintain electrochemical workstations.
• Assist faculty and researchers in designing and implementing experiments and work plans.

Management of Laboratory Resources

• Oversee procurement, storage, and management of laboratory resources, including gases, tubing, and fittings.

Research Services

• Showcase advanced experience in various thin-film deposition methods, vacuum, plasma and high-temperature, including Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), PECVD, and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD).
• Possess strong knowledge of electrochemistry principles and techniques, and their application to 2D materials applications in energy transfer and storage applications.Demonstrate expertise in common surface and structural characterization techniques for 2D materials, such as Raman spectroscopy, AFM, XRD, XPS, SEM.
• Develop expertise in tailoring and refining recipes for material synthesis and deposition.
• Facilitate the innovation and development of RIC2D research programs.
• Supervise research activities, ensuring reliable operation of equipment and accurate experimental setups.
• Collaborate with investigators and research personnel to address laboratory challenges and optimize equipment performance.
