Join us in the Amazon Reliability Maintenance Engineering team. We maintain and optimize technologies in the Global Amazon Warehouse & Delivery Network.
We are looking for motivated, customer-focused people who want to join our team as an Automation Engineer (AE).
The focus of the AE role is to fault find, troubleshoot and improve controls solutions for automated material handling equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, scales, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, and control cabinets. The AE will also provide training to the Engineering Technicians on device troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
Key job responsibilities
- Be the site level Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all controls systems and sensors within the building. Work in a hands-on manner to actively monitor, fault find and repair systems in order to provide a high level of equipment availability to internal customers.
- Train technicians in the basics of control systems fault finding in order to raise the level of knowledge within the site.
- Work within the AMET Controls network to enhance the capability to monitor Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics and provide visualization and data to internal customers by means of troubleshooting and prioritizing.
- Actively participate in or own continuous improvement projects coordinated by the AMET Controls network.
- Work with IT, AMET Controls Engineering and Operations Engineering to ensure all systems are correctly documented and that accurate backup libraries are maintained.
- Work alongside global teams to support the installation and commission of new equipment.
- Support other sites in the AMET network as required.
- Interpreting both mechanical and electrical drawings plus understanding and developing improvement strategies for code conforming to IEC 61131-3.
- Perform the Process Improvement required changes in the PLC code and SCADA systems following the change management process
- Ensure Equipment control systems reliability and ensure regular/documented back up collection for the PLC codes
- Perform the required root cause analysis after unplanned stoppages related to control systems and ensure CPA closure on time
- Work jointly with OEMs technical remote support teams for if any support required
A day in the life
- Daily Monitor and respond to RME customers
- requests through trouble ticketing system and always show customer obsession behavior.
- Plan for PLC and SCADA code change following the standard change management process
- Train In house RME Technicians on basic Automation troubleshooting skills
Basic Qualifications
- Engineering Degree in Electrical/Automation from reputable University
- Relevant experience with PLC controlled automation and issue diagnosis in a continuous process or production environment.
- Experience supporting a wide range of different conveyors and sorting systems.
- Experience in dealing with material handling, flow and capacity visualization and monitoring.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, Ignition, Visio and AutoCAD.
- Ability to communicate (written & verbal)
Preferred Qualifications
· Electrical or mechanical training degree in computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related fields.
· Understanding of ISO 13849 & 62061
· Familiarity with CE Machinery Directive.
· Experience in a multi-site environment.
· Project management experience.
· Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, data analysis and process improvement techniques.

**What you'll do:**
This position is responsible for mechanical design, assembly and smooth operation of automated machines.
+ Mechanical desing, assembly and wiring of machines and plants
+ Maintenance work on mechanical and electronic systems, including inspections, cleanings and lubrications
+ Creation of machine safety concepts and machine data concepts
+ Design and optimization of automation solutions for production plants using PLC controllers, robotics, industrial image processing, drive technology, testing technology, safety technology and other automation technologies
+ Programming and commissioning of PLC controllers, safety controllers and HMI systems
+ Integration of robotic systems and other automated components into existing production processes
+ Functional tests and performance tests on automation systems, troubleshooting and optimization of control programs
+ Preparation of technical documentation, operating instructions and training material
+ Collaboration in planning and implementing projects for modernization and expansion of our production facilities
+ Support in training of new employees in using new automation technologies
+ Introduction of Industry 4.0 technologies (such as 3D printing, AMR, predictive maintenance, simulation, .)"
**Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in preferably mechanical engineering, automation engineering, mechatronics or a similar qualification
+ Min 3 years of experience in industrial automation
**Skills:**
+ Cam-controlled machines like: Bihler (prefered); Wafios, Finzer
+ Experienced in CAD, SPS, HMI-Systems; advantageous: programming skills
+ Quick comprehension, continous learning, willingness to work shifts & travel
