The Department of Translation Studies at the United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a position of Assistant in Translation Studies to commence in August 2017, subject to final budget approval. The position would suit an applicant with a specialization in Translation Studies and experience in teaching translation. Specialization in legal translation/interpreting, conference interpreting, audio-visual translation, or computer assisted translation is a plus.

Duties include teaching undergraduate level translation courses and some General Education courses within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; engaging in research; supervising student research projects; advising students, and serving on committees. The teaching load is normally 12 credit hours (four courses) per semester.

Compensation includes competitive salary, free housing off-campus, a comprehensive health plan, education allowance for children, annual return travel to home destination, and an end-of-service gratuity.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A Ph.D. in Translation Studies from an accredited Western university.
• A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at university level.
• A good record of refereed publications in Translation Studies or a related field like Linguistics and Translation or Cross-cultural Communication and Translation.
• Native or near-native proficiency in English and Arabic is a must.
• Three years of experience in professional translation and/or interpreting.
• Excellent computer skills. Knowledge of educational technologies is a plus.

An ability to teach some or all of the following courses would be an advantage: interpreting (simultaneous and/or consecutive), legal translation, medical translation, audio-visual translation, and translation technology.
