Overview of the Role

Murdoch University Dubai is seeking a passionate and qualified Adjunct Lecturer to deliver the Advanced Academic Writing and Research (Foundation) unit. This role is ideal for educators with a strong background in English as an Additional Language (EAL), academic writing, or foundation-level instruction who are committed to empowering students as they transition into tertiary education.

As an Adjunct Lecturer, you will contribute to the academic success of a diverse student body by delivering engaging and structured learning experiences that develop students' writing, research, and critical thinking skills. You will be part of a collaborative academic environment that values innovation, academic integrity, and student-centered learning.

Objectives of the Position

• Deliver high-quality teaching and support for students enrolled in the Advanced Academic Writing and Research (Foundation) unit.
• Facilitate student learning of core academic reading, writing, and research skills in alignment with Murdoch University standards.
• Guide students in producing written work that adheres to academic conventions and demonstrates critical engagement with source material.
• Provide constructive feedback and promote student self-reflection and improvement.
• Support the wider goals of the Foundation Program in helping students transition successfully to undergraduate studies.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, workshops, and tutorials focused on academic writing, reading, research skills, and referencing.
• Create and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
• Assess student work and provide timely, actionable feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and engagement.
• Collaborate with program staff on curriculum delivery and quality assurance.
• Use learning management systems (LMS) and relevant software effectively for teaching and communication.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• A tertiary qualification in Education or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of experience and education/training).
• Minimum 2 years' experience in one or more of the following:
• Teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL)
• Academic Reading and Writing (ARW)
• Foundation/enabling programs
• Unit coordination in a tertiary setting
• Experience lecturing in a post-secondary environment with consistently high student satisfaction ratings.
• Sound knowledge of academic conventions and teaching best practices at the foundation level.

Skills & Attributes

• Strong understanding of academic writing, grammar, referencing, and research processes.
• Demonstrated ability to support students in developing academic literacy and critical reading/writing skills.
• High level of organisational and communication skills.
• Technologically literate and proficient with Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, and university software.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

• Apply appropriate academic vocabulary, grammar, and tone.
• Identify and analyze structure in academic journal articles and research sources.
• Organize information logically according to academic text structures.
• Summarize, paraphrase, and reference research accurately.
• Proofread and revise written work effectively.
• Respond to and integrate feedback into their writing.
• Apply academic referencing conventions and cite sources appropriately.
