Job Title: Environmental Laboratory Chemist
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environmental laboratory as an Environmental Laboratory Chemist. You will be based in Basra, Iraq, on a rotational basis, and you will work under the supervision of the Environmental Laboratory Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Perform organic and inorganic testing on GC-FID, Headspace GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, ICP-OES, and IC for water and soil samples to detect and quantify hydrocarbons, volatiles, pesticides, etc.
- Hands-on experience collection, preservation, and transportation of water samples to maintain their integrity.
- Develop new methods and protocols to enhance laboratory capabilities for water and soil samples.
- Conduct validation and measurement uncertainty studies for organic and inorganic parameters in the lab.
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical analyses.
- Hands-on experience in preparing and storing standard solutions and other reagents required for organic, inorganic, and wet chemistry analysis in water and soil samples.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly checks as per ISO/APHA methods.
- Conduct QA/QC checks and standardization as directed by the section in-charge or Lab Manager.
- Calibrate and verify instruments internally as instructed by the section in-charge or Lab Manager.
- Perform routine wet chemistry analysis for parameters such as BOD, COD, ammonia, sulfide, TDS, etc.
- Maintain a clean laboratory environment at all times.
- Adhere to international standards ISO/IEC 17025, local government requirements, GLP, and other relevant laboratory safety standards.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential sources of contamination and develop mitigation strategies.
- Notify the Lab Manager of non-conformances and assist with follow-up actions.
Required Skills:
- BS/MSc in Chemistry.
- Minimum 2 years experience in the Analytical Laboratory.
- Should have excellent instrument knowledge.
- Should have knowledge in international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Excel & Word.
