We are seeking a highly experienced Planning Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining project objectives, pilot-project status, and ensuring forecast reliability. They will also need to prepare planning documents, including baseline project schedules, engineering documents deliverables registers, progress measurement systems, S-curves, and manpower histograms.

Additionally, the Planning Engineer will be expected to analyze project risks, develop mitigation plans, and update and maintain accurate updated schedules, progress statistics, and S curves.

They will also act as a focal point for engineering discipline leads regarding scheduling and progress issues, and contribute to the change management process by analyzing and reporting schedule impacts to the project.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 12 years of industry experience
  • Minimum 8 years of Engineering Planning experience (Feasibility/Concept, Pre FEED, FEED, Detail Engineering Projects)
  • Competent/proficient user of Primavera, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Word, and MS Project

The primary function of this role is to provide project planning support within the Refining Business Line Group Companies (BLGCs) and associated potential new joint ventures. Job Purpose

Key Accountabilities

Project / Investment Assessment

  • Ensure adherence to the Project Value Assurance Process (VAP).
  • Review monthly reports, monitor progress, identify concerns, and propose mitigation measures, escalating significant issues to management.
  • Promote fairness and transparency in dealings with consultants, contractors, and manufacturers, following approved procedures.
  • Maintain the team's Technical Support MIS, ensuring data accuracy for reporting and planning.
  • Ensure collection and recording of best practices and lessons learned in the MIS for access by BLGCs.

Projects Handover & Commissioning

  • Follow up on project completion issues, readiness for commissioning, pre-commissioning tests, and post-commissioning performance checks, including warranty assessments.

Commercial Support

  • Ensure projects meet commercial and technical requirements to achieve objectives and comply with ADNOC guidelines.

ADNOC International Projects

  • Support business development during international opportunity identification.
  • Follow up on project implementation from transfer from business development to refining.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE standards, local laws, international conventions, and JV mandates.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in technical and project engineering or management within the oil, gas, and refining industry.
  • Good knowledge of industry best practices, technology trends, and applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Proficiency in project management software.

Professional Certifications

PMP certification is preferred.

    The opportunity

    We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Planning Engineer to join our team. In this role you will be providing expert planning guidance to project teams within the PGGI 2226 unit, supporting the successful execution of EP and EPC projects. Act as a key advisor in aligning project timelines, deliverables, and re-source planning with business and client expectations. You will be combining strategic thinking with meticulous attention to detail to ensure robust planning frameworks are in place from contract award through to project handover. Anticipate challenges and proactively support the team in navigating complex project dynamics. You will Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and collaborative problem-solving across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project management functions. Serve as a central point of coordination to drive alignment and accountability.

    How you’ll make an impact

    • Leading the planning activities for EP and EPC projects, ensuring alignment across engineering, procurement, construction, and other key functions. Monitor progress, provide regular updates, and escalate risks proactively to maintain project timelines and contractual commitments.
    • Developing and managing detailed project schedules in collaboration with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction teams. Account for resource constraints, bottlenecks, and critical path activities to optimize execution and ensure milestone adherence.
    • Tracking and analyzing site execution progress against the baseline schedule. Identify delays, maintain delay logs, and work closely with site teams to implement recovery plans. Provide look-ahead schedules and executive summaries to guide project teams and senior management.
    • Leading and supporting the preparation of Extension of Time claims by selecting appropriate delay analysis methodologies (e.g. Impacted as planned, Time Impact Analysis, As-Planned vs. As-Built etc). Coordinate with project teams to gather substantiating evidence and ensure timely submission of claims.
    • Monitoring project progress using S-curves with assigned weightages across disciplines and deliverables. Develop and interpret cost curves to assess earned value, forecast trends, and support financial and schedule performance evaluations.
    • Closely monitoring contractual milestones, stage gates, and on-time delivery commitments. Ensure timely completion of key deliverables in alignment with client expectations and project agreements.
    • Overseeing all planning-related activities within SAP and other digital platforms (Power BI). Ensure accurate data entry, reporting, and system integration to support project controls and decision-making.
    • Preparing and maintaining key planning reports including project KPIs. Support monthly and weekly reviews with actionable insights and data-driven recommendations.
    • Working closely with Tendering & sales, Project Management, Engineerinng, Manufacturing and site team to align planning strategies with business goals and client expectations.

    Your background

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of work experience in EP and EPC projects, particularly in greenfield and brownfield developments across the energy and infrastructure sectors.
  • Expert level knowledge of Primavera P6 and MS Project
  • PMI-SP or PMP certified
  • A strong background in project controls, scheduling, and resource planning, with a proven track record of working on large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with tools like Primavera P6, MS Project, and Power BI is essential.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams and multicultural environments is highly valued.
  • Proactive, Self-Motivated, Flexible.
  • Quick to learn and execute.
  • Experience in Microsoft office and tools.
  • Knowledge of DMS, ACC etc

    Job Purpose
    Support Projects of the Refining BLGC’s and associated potential new joint ventures ensuring optimum utilization of resources and maximize value realization of the BLGC’s assets to achieve continuous growth, profitability and excellence through the application of best practices and alignment with ADNOC guidelines, strategies & objectives.

    Key Accountabilities
    Project / Investment Assessment

    • Assist the review of all project proposals including design basis, mass and energy balance, assumptions, strategies, etc. to ensure the technical robustness and profitable economics with emphasis on HSE matters and energy efficiency at the project approval stage.
    • Assist the review of Feasibility, Pre-FEED, FEED documents or any studies, as necessary, to make comments, that supports the decision making for a project stage gate approval
    • Coordinate with BLGCs for evaluation of project proposals and submission to Investment Committee for necessary endorsement
    • Assist and review special studies related to ADNOC and BLGC Refining Projects and participate in task forces as assigned in order to evaluate performance, integrity review, inspections and audits.
    Projects Review
    • Support in the review of project proposals, recommendations, issues and concerns occurring all through the project cycle from FEED until close-out of the project including technical, efficiency, economics, profitability, contracting strategy, Project management consultancy, key contract terms and awards, Bidders list for Consultants, Post completion analysis and lessons learnt for improvement for future projects execution.
    • Conduct analysis and provide comments to support management in decision making.
    Project Management
    • Coordinate with various project stakeholders to ensure that they are successfully executed within approved budget, timelines and quality specifications and that they meet the required life cycle, capacity, quality and HSE standards and its compliance with UAE laws( for UAE Projects) & respective country laws (for ADNOC International Projects), policies, regulations and ADNOC guidelines.
    • Ensure compliance to Project Value Assurance Process (VAP).
    • Review the monthly reports, monitors the progress, assess the areas of concerns and mitigation measures proposed and highlights to the higher management of any remarkable, recurring or concerning issues.
    • Support in promoting fairness and transparency in dealing with the project consultants, contractors and manufacturers, following approved systems and procedures.
    • Maintain the Team’s Technical Support MIS and update data to ensure that accurate data is available for reporting and planning purposes.
    • Ensures that best practices and lesson learned information are collected and recorded in the MIS and made available to the BLGCs
    Job Specific Accountabilities
    Projects Control
    • Continuously monitor project cost, schedule and progress and conduct reporting activities and functions of all phases of projects until final acceptance of works.
    • Plan and monitor updating and maintenance of systems, procedures and techniques in the areas of planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting for efficient and effective execution of projects.
    Projects HSE & Sustainability
    • Assist in the development and control of Refining Projects HSE corporate performance targets and objectives and support in the implementation of a sustainable culture and proactively seeks to incorporate sustainability into the ongoing work practices
    Projects Handover & Commissioning
    • Assist the follow up on the issues / status of completion, Readiness for commissioning, Pre-commissioning test run of all equipment with the end user, Pre-commissioning, commissioning, post commissioning check of the performance tests against the design and construction requirements and warranty checks of the status of equipment of the plant prior to the end of the warranty period.
    Commercial Support
    • Ensure that BLGCs implemented projects’ commercial and technical requirements are in order to achieve project objectives. Ensures that all ADNOC project execution guidelines are implemented.
    ADNOC International Projects
    • Provide Support, as necessary to Business Development Function during identification stage of an International Business Opportunity.
    • Follow-up on ADNOC International Projects implementation up to completion / handover (upon transfer from business development Function to Refining Business Function)
    • Ensure compliance of HSE standards (minimum ADNOC Standard as a default), local country laws, international conventions, and ensure preparation and compliance of JV Mandates for each project.
    • Ensure preparation of JV Mandates for each project for smooth execution, project implementation strategy and /or interim arrangements like Oversight committees for project implementation whilst JV formation is taking shape.
    Minimum Qualification
    Bachelor Degree in Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
    Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
    • 8 years of relevant professional experience in Technical and Projects Engineering or Management in the Oil / Gas & Refining industry.
    • Good knowledge of industry best practice and technology trends, and of applicable legislation and regulations.
    • Good skills on Project Management software.
