Job Description

The Drilling Fluids Engineer plays a crucial role in the oil and gas industry by overseeing the design and implementation of drilling fluid programs to optimize drilling operations. This position requires a strong understanding of fluid dynamics, geology, and chemistry to ensure the wellbore is stable, the drill bit stays cool, and the cuttings are efficiently brought to the surface. The Drilling Fluids Engineer must collaborate with other engineers, geologists, and drilling personnel to develop fluid programs that meet operational requirements while maintaining environmental and safety standards. This role involves both office-based and field-based components, requiring the engineer to analyze data, monitor fluid properties, and adjust fluid compositions in real time to respond to changing conditions downhole. Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, or related field is required.
• Minimum of three years of experience in drilling fluids management in the oil and gas industry.
• Solid understanding of fluid dynamics, chemistry, and drilling operations is essential.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

• Represent Dragon Oil as a shareholder in all Drilling and Completion Engineering-related matters to Iraq Asset.
• Provide technical overview, governance, and challenge to operator activities to ensure alignment with shareholder objectives, technical standards, and value delivery.

• Act as Dragon Oil's focal point in Drilling and Completion discussions with operators. Participate in JV technical meetings (e.g., TCMs, well planning reviews, IFDP sessions, risk workshops). Review and challenge operator well designs, completion programs, stimulation plans, and contracting strategies. Ensure shareholder objectives and technical standards are upheld.
• Track and analyze Drilling, Completion, Workover, NPT, and efficiency KPIs; flag deviations and recommend corrective actions to the Director -Technical Support.
• Support Well Surveillance reviews and contribute to identifying Drilling/Completion performance improvements, risk reduction, and cost optimization opportunities.
• Review relevant sections of investment proposals, AFEs, and technical notes related to Drilling and Completion engineering inputs.
• Ensure all proposed well activities are technically justified, commercially viable, aligned with shareholder KPIs, and compliant with HSE and industry's best practices.
• Coordinate with internal subsurface, production, facilities, and HSE functions to consolidate Dragon Oil's technical position on well design and execution.
• Contribute to Joint studies, well reviews, peer assists, technical audits, and performance evaluations as required.
• Provide structured technical feedback and risk summaries to the Director - Technical Support.

• Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 12 - 15 years of experience in Drilling, Completion, and Workover operations and engineering including at least 5 years of Onshore / Offshore experience, including exposure to directional drilling, HPHT wells, and highly deviated well designs.
• Prior experience in shareholder/partner governance roles preferred.

About the Role

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer with a minimum of 7 years post graduate experience.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering complex geotechnical design solutions across major infrastructure projects including highways, motorways, rail, active travel schemes, and drainage works.

This is a crucial position within our Geotechnical team, supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary design projects for both public and private sector clients across Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical input on large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review geotechnical design calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior staff within the geotechnical team.
• Undertake ground investigation scoping, design, supervision, and interpretation.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and environmental engineering teams.
• Liaise with project stakeholders, clients, and contractors during design and construction phases.
• Ensure that all geotechnical design work is delivered to the highest quality and safety standards in accordance with Eurocodes and Irish/UK standards.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for and have expertise in both design and construction supervision of geotechnical activities. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, preparing technical reports, and overseeing geotechnical projects from conceptualization to completion.
