Role Overview
As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key leadership role in the enhancement of a large, deep sewage pump station. You will provide mechanical engineering expertise during the Design, Build, and Operate (DBO) contract phase, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and resilience are embedded in the upgraded pumping station. You will ensure the delivery of a highly resilient, efficient, and technically advanced pumping station, guiding the contractor in best practices for mechanical design, equipment selection, and integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all mechanical engineering reviews and approvals related to pumps, motors, HVAC, ventilation, mechanical seals, valves, and instrumentation
- Evaluate the DBO contractor's mechanical design proposals to ensure compliance with project requirements, O&M feasibility, and future resilience
- Supervise and monitor installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems
- Advise on best-in-class solutions for flood-proofing mechanical systems and equipment
- Coordinate with the other technical disciplines of the PMC Engineering team to ensure holistic and integrated system performance
- Lead mechanical-focused technical reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and pre-commissioning procedures
- Assist with the development and evaluation of O&M strategies, asset management systems, and lifecycle optimization
**Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred)
- At least 15 years of experience in design and implementation of sewage pumping stations or related infrastructure
- Deep knowledge of mechanical systems for large-capacity sewage pumping and flood prevention measures
- Familiarity with advanced control systems, redundancy planning, and emergency backup systems
- Strong experience working in PMC or client-representative roles
- Proficient in design and review tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, BIM)
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes (e.g., EN, BS, ACI, local standards)
- Excellent coordination, communication, and report writing skills
